Visit Chevrolet for more information on the Chevrolet Corvette.

In designing the new Chevrolet Corvette, engineers were determined to make the model more competition-influenced than any previous Corvette. The goal was a powerful car with more raw performance along with a technically sophisticated interior and a contemporary new body.

The result: the new C6 has more power, more features and a new style. It is faster than ever, and more awe-inspiring than before...

… Corvette enthusiasts may have to wipe the drool off their chins at this point.

Available Models
The 2005 Chevrolet Corvette comes as a hatchback coupe with a lift-off roof panel or as a convertible with a fabric soft top and heated glass rear window. A power top is newly available this year.

Interior Features
Even though the new dimensions have shrunk, the new C6 has just as much room as before. The new instrument panel and doors are covered with cast-skin foam-in-place trim that looks like a leather-wrapped, padded panel.

All the luxuries you would expect are present, as is a new MP3 player. A full-function OnStar system is also available. New this year is an optional onboard navigation system. Using a 6.5-inch color touch-screen display, the DVD-based system contains all the map data for the United States and Canada on one disc.

Exterior Features
The new 2005 Chevrolet Corvette is 5 inches shorter and about 1 inch narrower than its predecessor. Larger wheels (18-inch in front, 19-inch in rear) are topped by dramatic fender forms. Exposed headlamps return as well, with fixed Xenon High-Intensity Discharge lamps there to provide superior lighting.

Performance
The Chevrolet Corvette's 6.0-liter V8 has an increase in horsepower this year, resulting in ratings of 400 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 400 lb-ft of torque at 4000. There are two transmission choices: a 6-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic.

The Tremec 6-speed manual system features improved shifting characteristics with new synchronizers that reduce travel by 10 percent, and a redesigned shifter lever. The Hydra-Matic 4L65-E automatic transmission is an upgraded version of the C5's 4L60-E, and includes GM's advanced Performance Algorithm Shifting, which automatically selects the optimal gear for a given driving condition.

Check this out: the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette is capable of 186 mph, faster than any production Corvette in history. It reaches zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, and in 4.1 seconds with the optional Z51 Performance Package, and it covers the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 114 mph.

Safety and Security
Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, an antiskid/traction control system and a tire-pressure monitor are standard. The convertible also has side airbags.
