The 2005 Ford Mustang is all-new, having undergone a comprehensive
redesign. This has been a lot more than just a facelift,
with an extended wheelbase (6-inches longer) for better
stance, balance and overall interior room, a subsequent
interior redesign with improved head room, leg room and
hip room and new exterior styling that evokes the classic
1960 styling that put the Mustang on the map in the first
place.
To go with this, Ford has given the pony car two new, more
powerful engines and a host of related performance changes
to handle the power including a state-of-the-art chassis,
advanced MacPherson struts, upgraded brakes and much more.
The new Ford Mustang also has an industry-first color-configurable
instrument cluster option available. Drivers can personalize
the dashboard backlight color in one of 125 colors.
Available Models
The 2005 Ford Mustang is offered in V6 and V8 Deluxe and
Premium trims, each with slightly more generous standards
packages.
Interior Features
The 2005 Ford Mustang continues to be offered as a two-door
coupe and a two-door convertible, both of which seat four
adults. The base model V6 Deluxe includes air conditioning,
power windows and door locks, tilt steering column, full-length
center floor console, remote keyless entry and interval
windshield wipers as well as an AM/FM/CD player.
A move to the V6 Premium adds 6-way powered front seats
and an improved stereo system that is MP3 capable. The next
step up, to V8 Deluxe, takes that progression a bit further
while a move to the top-level V8Premium adds leather upholstery,
top-end audio and power lumbar adjustment.
Options include an interior upgrade package with satin
aluminum trim and MyColor custom instrument panel and an
interior color accent package with red seats and door inserts
contrasted by a black interior.
Exterior Features
The new Ford Mustang has the signature long hood and short
rear deck accompanied by C-scoops in the sides, three-element
tail lamps and the galloping horse badge in the center of
the grille. The shark-like nose echoes the 1967 model while
the jeweled, round headlamps sit in trapezoidal housings.
Performance
The 2005 Ford Mustang has more power, whether you choose
the V6 or the V8. The V6 has is a 4-liter SOHC that pumps
out 210-horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque while the
4.6-liter all-aluminum V-8 with three-valve heads offers
300 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque and is capable of
0-60mph in 5.2 seconds. Both engine choices come with either
automatic or manual transmissions.
The V8 comes with traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes,
and low-profile 235/55ZR17 high-speed tires on bright alloy
wheels. A rear spoiler and fog lights add to the go-fast
style details.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags, advanced safety belts with outboard
pretensioners, a theft-deterrent system and the LATCH child
seat system are standard. Also available are antilock brakes
and traction control, both standard features on V8 models.
Optional safety extras include seat-mounted front-side airbags.
