The 2005 Ford Freestar is a 7-seater minivan with a number
of outstanding features with class-leading profiles for
safety, performance and interior amenity. Introduced last
year, it returns as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
Best Pick, it offers several new colors, expands availability
of the sporty liftgate spoiler to the SES, and both Class
I and Class II towing packages.
Ford describes their 2005 Ford Freestar minivan as the
most flexible, most powerful and highest-quality minivan
they have ever built.
Available Models
The 2005 Ford Freestar returns with five trim levels, unchanged
from the introductory year, with S, SE, SES, SEL and Limited
models.
Interior Features
The Freestar's third-row bench folds into the floor, which
is a first for a Ford minivan. In addition, the third-row
bench also flips around for rear-facing tailgate seating
under the open liftgate. This feature is perfect for picnicking
or tailgating.
The 2005 Ford Freestar seats up to seven passengers, but
retains more than 25 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the
fold-flat third-row seat. With the third-row seat folded
down and the second-row seats are removed, the rear cargo
area expands to a mammoth 134 cubic feet and the innovative
interior design allows for large flat sheet work material
stowage. Adding versatility, the third-row seat can be reversed
to face out the back for picnics or tailgating.
As for interior amenity, the base model Freestar S offers
a value-oriented set of standards that still includes remote
keyless entry, power locks, mirrors and windows, air conditioning
and an AM/FM stereo. By the time you get to the top of the
model lineup, to the Limited trim, you have a more luxurious
story with features such as leather upholstery, power-adjustable
pedals, heated power mirrors with turn signals and power
sliding rear doors. For all trims except the base S, a rear
seat DVD entertainment system is available.
Exterior Features
Freestar S and SE models have monochromatic, body-color
fascias and a body-color grille. The SES features a black
grille, black lower bumper sections and body-side trim,
five-spoke, 16-inch aluminum wheels and fog lamps. On Freestar
SEL and Limited models, the grille is chromed and the bumper
fascias and cladding have chrome trim strips. As mentioned
above, this year a new sporty liftgate spoiler is available
for the SES trim. In addition, a plethora of new colors
has been made available: Arizona Beige Clearcoat Metallic,
Matador Red Clearcoat Metallic (on S series); Dark Shadow
Grey Clearcoat Metallic/Graphite Clearcoat Metallic, and
Silver Birch Clearcoat Metallic/Graphite Clearcoat Metallic
(Limited series); and Dark Shadow Grey Clearcoat Metallic
(all series).
Performance
Two engines power the front-wheel drive Ford Freestar. The
first, standard with S, SE and SES models, is a 3.9-liter
V6. It revs out 193 horsepower at 4750 rpm and 248 lb-ft
of torque at 3700 rpm. SEL and Limited models feature the
most torque in the minivan segment. Their engine is a 4.2-liter
V6. It puts out 202 horsepower at 4250 rpm and an exceptional
267 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm. Ford's latest 4-speed automatic
transmission is standard with both engines. Using an upgraded
hydraulic design, the 4-speed system is made to help the
transmission shift more quickly and smoothly.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and a tire-pressure
monitor are standard. For added safety, front side airbags
and curtain side airbags are optional.
