Millions of these cars have sold over the last two decades
or so, as police cars, family cars and businessmen's commuters.
The success has meant that the Ford Crown Victoria is an
archetype of the XXL-size sedan and they are touted by Ford
as the sedan for traditional large-car buyers who seek the
features they grew up with - roominess, comfort, smooth
ride, V-8 power and rear-wheel drive.
This year, the 2005 Ford Crown Victoria also offers a 6CD
changer, a power moonroof for LX and LX Sport models, a
new exterior color, Light Tundra Clearcoat Metallic (shiny
brown?) and a continued commitment to safety, with the government's
highest (5-star) safety rating.
Available Models
The 2005 Ford Crown Victoria returns with three models:
Standard, LX and LX Sport.
Interior Features
The four-door Ford Crown Victoria readily defines the term
"full-size" as it applies to sedans. In six-passenger
Standard and LX trims, the Crown Victoria offers 111.2 cubic
feet of passenger volume.
With a total of 20.6 cubic feet of space, the Crown Victoria's
trunk is the biggest in its class, perfect for golf clubs.
Crown Victoria's low liftover height also makes loading
and unloading easy.
At the top of the Ford Crown Victoria food chain is the
LX Sport. It provides air conditioning with electronic climate
control, a center console, an auto-dim rearview mirror,
a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and climate
controls and leather trim 8-way power front seats. The power
moonroof and available 6CD changer add to options for this
year on LX and LX Sport models.
Exterior Features
The Ford Crown Victoria is not a flashy car. Its clean styling
features wide door openings, large glass areas for good
visibility, wraparound aerodynamic headlamps and standard
foldaway remote-control power outside mirrors. In addition,
color-keyed body-side moldings protect it from minor nicks.
Performance
The engines haven't changed for 2005, they are still the
high powered 4.6-liter V8s. The base puts out 224 horsepower
at 4800 rpm and 239 lb-ft of torque at 4900 rpm. The LX
Sport features a 4.6-liter V8 that delivers 239 horsepower
at 4900 rpm and 287 lb-ft of torque at 4100 rpm.
The rear-wheel drive 2005 Ford Crown Victoria mates both
engines to a 4-speed automatic transmission. A revised torque
converter improves off-the-line acceleration this year.
Standard all-season BSW tires held maintain a steady grip
in all road conditions.
Safety and Security
Standard safety features include BeltMinder, child safety
locks on the rear doors, the LATCH system, dual front airbags
and a glow-in-the-dark internal trunk release handle. Front
side airbags and all-speed traction control are optional.
Adding to security as an optional extra, laminated front
side glass is available to provide extra security against
"smash-and-grab" break-ins and thefts. Additional
benefits include improved protection from flying glass in
a collision, reduced road and wind noise and a filter for
most of the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, which lessens
heat buildup and interior fading.
