Venture's reign in the minivan segment will draw to a close
with the ending of 2005, as the veteran makes way for the
new Uplander. In being replaced by a crossover vehicle that
combines the qualities of a traditional van with those of
a rugged sport utility vehicle and a smooth-riding sedan,
the Venture has basically shown itself to be a victim of
the times.
However, though it can't offer the type of versatility
that a crossover sport van can, the 2005 Chevy Venture can
still easily handle the busy daily driving needs of families.
Still dependable and still safe, there is no compromising
the quality of this year's Venture.
Available Models
The 2005 Chevy Venture drops last year's regular-length
and all-wheel drive versions. The lineup now consists of
three front-wheel drive models: Plus, LS and LT.
Interior Features
The Chevy Venture has standard seven-passenger seating that
includes a two-person second-row bench and a three-person
50/50 split folding third-row bench. LS and LT offer package
options with dual captain chairs or triple buckets in the
second row, plus a stowable third-row seat.
The standards are plentiful, but the options are decadent.
Available for 2005 are rear-obstacle warning, GM's OnStar
assistance and, for LS/LT, satellite radio and a CD/MP3
player.
Rear DVD entertainment is included on the LT, available
for the LS. The system can play DVD video, DVD audio and
CDs, and includes a flat, flip-down, 7-inch video screen,
two wireless headphones and a wireless remote control.
Exterior Features
Power right-side and left-side doors are available for the
LS and LT. So too are 16-inch chrome wheels.
Performance
The 2005 Chevy Venture continues to be powered by a 3.4-liter
V6 engine that produces 185 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 210
lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Coupled to this is GM's proven
Hydra-Matic 4T65-E electronically controlled 4-speed automatic
overdrive transaxle.
A Sport Suspension Package for 2005 adds an air-inflator
kit and Sport Suspension with automatic load leveling.
Safety and Security
All models have dual front airbags and daytime running lights.
Midlevel LS models add antilock brakes and front side airbags,
while top-line LS models throw in traction control.
The available rear-obstacle detection system alerts drivers
of objects or people behind the vehicle with both audible
and visible signals while the van is in reverse. Venture
is the only product in the industry to offer both types
of indicators.
