Chevy's Tahoe keeps plugging along without too much fanfare.
That is especially so in 2005, as the GM division is guilty
of hyping a number of new models (and with good reason).
Still, they haven't neglected the full-size SUV, as they
dole out a nice list of new features.
The new features for the 2005 Chevy Tahoe give it more
refinement, security and interior comfort. For security,
there's the new OnStar system and a new tire-pressure monitor
with single-wheel alerts. For refinement and comfort, there
are new trim appointments such as a touch-screen navigation
system.
Available Models
The 2005 Chevy Tahoe is offered as a base model, with LS
and LT packages available as add-ons.
Interior Features
Tahoes are similar to Suburbans, but a little smaller. The
½-ton SUV can still be fitted with an optional third-row
seat for nine-passenger capacity.
Entry-level Tahoes have the following features on their
list (and then some): an AM/FM/CD player, front and rear
air conditioning with tri-zone manual climate controls (including
rear controls), a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise
control, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks
and remote keyless entry.
The top-line LT package simply heaps on the features. Included
are leather upholstery, heated 10-way power front bucket
seats, driver-seat memory, power-adjustable pedals, the
OnStar system, automatic climate controls, a Bose AM/FM
radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer, satellite radio and
steering-wheel and rear radio controls.
Exterior Features
All 2005 Chevy Tahoes also have a rear liftgate with lift-up
glass, and their side-sill assist steps have been redesigned
for improved aerodynamics and durability.
Performance
Powering the entry-level 2005 Chevy Tahoe LS this year is
a 4.8-liter V8 engine. It delivers up to 285 horsepower
at 5600 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Standard
with the LT and optional with the LS is a 5.3-liter V8 engine.
It can muster 295 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 330 lb-ft of
torque at 4000 rpm.
GM's Hydra-Matic 4L60-E 4-speed automatic transmission
is standard with both engines. The 2005 Tahoe can tow up
to 7,700 pounds (3,493 kg) when equipped with a special
trailering package. It includes a trailer-hitch platform,
transmission-oil cooler, a heavy-duty air cleaner and a
trailer-brake-wiring harness.
GM's StabiliTrak stability enhancement system is available
on models with the 5.3-liter V8. It is very useful in tough
driving conditions, keeping the big SUV in perfect control.
Also offered is Autoride Suspension, which includes variable-rate
shock absorbers and load-leveling rear suspension.
Safety and Security
Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock
4-wheel disc brakes and the new tire-pressure monitor.
