The Impala is one of the clear mainstays for Chevy. It
is General Motors' best-selling car in the U.S., and it
ranks fifth among national sales leaders. For the 2005 model
year, Chevrolet says it carries forth the model line mostly
unchanged, but there are a few perks and improvements to
the large sedan.
The majority of the new changes involve the top-line SS,
a sporty model with an undeniable dose of raw power. For
the SS, Chevy upgrades with minor trim changes outside and
different front headrests. The SS also includes 17-inch
wheels vs. other models' 16s. Furthermore, the 2005 SS offers
chromed-finish 17s as a new option.
Available Models
The 2005 Chevrolet Impala is available in a base trim, an
LS trim and the SS model.
Interior Features
Being a large sedan, the Chevrolet Impala is large enough
to carry a family and their suitcases. The base four-door
sedan seats six passengers and offers 18.6 cubic feet of
trunk space.
OnStar is standard across the line for 2005. Base models
come fitted with air conditioning with manual dual-zone
climate controls, an interior air filter, a front split
bench seat, power mirrors, windows and door locks and remote
keyless entry.
LS models throw in a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a
6-way power driver seat with lumbar adjustment, a center
console, a split folding rear seat and more. The SS has
leather upholstery, an AM/FM/CD player and floormats.
Exterior Features
The body-color side moldings that are standard or available
on all 2005 Chevrolet Impala models are now made from a
specially developed nanocomposite. This material creates
a part that weighs 7 percent less than the part it replaced,
plus it has a higher quality finish and is 100-percent recyclable.
Performance
Base models come with a 3.4-liter V6 with 180 horsepower
and 200 lb-ft of torque. Standard on LS models and optional
with the base trim is a 3.8-liter Series II V6 with 200
horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.
The SS leaves the other two in the dust with a supercharged
Series II V6 with 240 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.
All of the engines are mated to a smooth 4-speed automatic
transmission.
The SS has stiffened spring rates and suspension enhancements
in both the front and rear end for better handling ability.
Safety and Security
There are more than 100 safety and security features with
the 2005 Chevrolet Impala. Standard features on Impala LS
include remote keyless entry, traction control, a tire inflation
monitoring system, antilock brakes and an available driver's
side-impact airbag.
