Buick's lowest priced car is back for the last go round.
Buick is retiring several models, the Century, Park Avenue
and Regal, in order to make way for a new consumer orientation
to SUVs and the new Sport Touring Vehicle class (the SUV-Car
crossover). However, they are going out with a flourish.
Available
Models
The 2005 Buick Century comes with three trim levels, last
year's upscale Custom and Limited models and one-of-a-kind
Special Edition, produced for this last year.
Interior Features
The 2005 Buick Century is a roomy full-size four-door sedan,
capable of seating up to six passengers. It has good head
and legroom in all seating positions, meaning even full-size
adults won't be squashed on the inside.
This year's basic model has the same features as last year's
Custom version, formerly an up-level trim. The result is
a generous package of standards that includes remote keyless
entry, a six-way power driver seat, cruise control, power
programmable door locks with enhanced safety and lockout
protection, a CD player, an air filtration system and power
windows. Up one level, the Limited Package adds leather
upholstery, steering-wheel mounted audio controls and rear
assist grips with switchable reading lamps. Chrome wheel
covers, color-keyed floormats and a trunk cargo net add
to the offering.
The Special Edition package has all that and some comfort
and style enhancements that include dual zone climate control.
Exterior Features
The Limited Package includes 15-inch chrome plated wheel
covers while the Special Edition has actual chrome wheels
topped off by a chrome grille and 225/60R16 tires.
Performance
Powering the 2005 Buick Century is a 3.1-liter V6 engine
with the following specs: 175 horsepower at 5200 rpm and
195 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to a proven
4-speed automatic transmission, resulting in fuel ratings
of 20 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway.
Buick's Convenience Plus package of features returns, giving
the Century a number of handy items. These include delayed
entry and exit lighting, theater dimming, flash-to-pass
control, battery rundown protection, lockout protection,
delayed locking, an auxiliary power outlet and daytime running
lamps.
Safety and Security
Front airbags comes standard as do 4-wheel disc brakes which
can, however, be replaced by optional 4-wheel antilock disc
brakes, traction control and a tire-pressure monitor on
the Special Edition. In addition to a sturdy, solid construction,
the Century has the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for
Children) system for young passengers. LATCH uses six metal
hooks to help adults easily and safely attach child safety
seats. Dual front airbags are also standard, and a driver's
side-impact airbag is available with leather-appointed seating
surfaces
