Part of Chrysler's successful revamping over the last few
years, the 2005 Chrysler 300 has contemporary styling that
suits its status as the new flagship, having replaced the
now-retired Concorde. A near-luxury car, the large 300 has
a reasonable price, an attractive combination of power and
roominess and distinct styling.
The new 300 comes from a long, distinguished line. In the
'50s and '60s, Chrysler developed a number of models in
a series of full-size cars that combined performance and
luxury. These formidable cars eventually went down in automotive
history as the Chrysler 300 "letter series" cars.
The 300 continues this tradition of size, speed and handling.
Available Models
The 2005 Chrysler 300 is available in a Base, Touring and
high-powered 300C version with a 5.7-liter V8 that will
move fast and with authority on the highway.
Interior Features
One of the main selling points of the 300 is its size. A
four-door sedan, it can handle five passengers without a
problem as it has over 105 cubic feet of interior volume
and 16.8 cubic feet of trunk space. The 60/40 split folding
rear seat with trunk pass through provides even more space
to transport gear and passengers.
Standard features on the Base 2005 Chrysler 300 include
cruise control and air conditioning and an 8-way power driver's
seat among the many other standards. A move to the Touring
and 300C classes adds much more with such features as leather
upholstery and heated power mirrors for the Touring and
more for the 300C; a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel
with radio controls, a memory system (driver seat, mirrors,
radio) and automatic climate control top name some notable
examples. High-end Boston Acoustics Audio, a navigation
system, hands-free telephone (UConnect) and satellite radio
are some of the handy extras.
Exterior Features
The 2005 Chrysler 300 is similar to some of the Dodge offerings
but it has a European flavour that works, one reflective
of the Daimler Chrysler merger. It is sleek and low riding,
able to cut through the wind with ease. Fog lights, chrome
alloy wheels and a touring suspension are some of the external
upgrades that come with one of the two up-level trims.
Performance
One of the best things about the 2005 Chrysler 300 are the
many performance options. The Base model comes with a 2.7-liter
V6. 190 hp at 6400rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque at 4000make
this a well-powered vehicle and will satisfy many. However,
the 300 Touring has a 250 horsepower V6 with 6400 rpm and
250 lb-ft of torque at 3900 rpm. Finally, at the top-end,
the 300C. This comes with a 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 with
cylinder deactivation and an aggressive 5-speed automatic
transmission with manual shift-gate capability. All-wheel
drive is available as well as chrome alloy wheels, touring
suspension, fog lights traction control and more. It all
depends on the particular configuration you choose.
Safety and Security
In addition to antilock brakes and traction control, the
2005 300 also has dual front airbags and an emergency inside
trunk release. The 300 Touring also comes with 4-wheel antilock
brakes, brake assist and an antiskid system. As an optional
extra, buyers can select the Protection Package. This includes
curtain-side airbags, a rear-obstacle detection system,
interior air filter and self-sealing tires.
