Looking just like a NASCAR racer, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo
has a definite aura of speed and drivability to it. Once
you get inside and take a few turns, you will more than
likely agree with the theme of the design. And that's not
even mentioning the Supercharged SS (covered separately),
a Monte Carlo with plenty of power and attitude.
There are only minor changes to the 2005 Chevrolet Monte
Carlo. One of the main additions is that the OnStar system
is now standard. But not just any version of OnStar-the
Monte Carlo uses the new sixth-generation hardware with
digital and analog coverage. OnStar's Gen 6 hardware also
includes upgraded hands-free voice recognition capabilities
including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved
voice recognition accuracy.
Available Models
The 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is available in two models:
LS and LT, which is a renaming of last year's midlevel SS
model.
Interior Features
The two-door, five-passenger Monte Carlo has as much as
7 more cubic feet of interior room than any non-GM competitor
in its class. All models also feature an advanced climate
control system with individual driver and front passenger
temperature settings. A standard 60/40 split-folding rear
seat makes Monte Carlo's 15.8 cubic feet of trunk space
easily accessible.
For options, there are heated front seats, satellite radio,
leather upholstery, a power sunroof and more.
Exterior Features
Another optional group is a Winner's Circle package, which
includes a rear spoiler, bodyside graphics and special alloy
wheels.
Performance
LT models receive a 3.4-liter V6 engine with 180 horsepower
and 205 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to the SS model gets
you a 3.8-liter Series II V6 with 200 horsepower and 225
lb-ft of torque.
4-speed automatic is the transmission of choice for all
2004 Monte Carlos. In the LT, the Hydra-Matic uses a shorter
final drive ratio of 3.29:1 for improved acceleration. Handling
and suspension features give the coupe a tight, smooth and
responsive feel at all speeds.
Safety and Security
Using the GPS satellite network and wireless technology,
OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Personal
Calling that allows drivers to make and receive hands-free,
voice-activated phone calls using a powerful three-watt
digital/analog system and external antenna for greater reception.
It also provides automatic notification of airbag deployment,
emergency services, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle
tracking, AccidentAssist, remote door unlock, remote diagnostics,
online concierge and remote activation of the vehicle's
horn and lights.
