The Dodge Caravan has been a perennial favorite of busy
families for twenty years now. Comfortable and safe, powerful
and durable, it combines all the right features at just
the right price. No wonder it's the world's best-selling
minivan.
Offered in regular length Caravan models and extended length
Grand Caravan trims, the duo has successfully dominated
the segment for twenty years. Dodge celebrates this achievement
with a special Anniversary Edition model based on the Dodge
Grand Caravan SXT.
The 2004 Dodge Caravan offer a number of new features as
well. Some of the debuts include a tire-pressure monitor,
remote keyless entry and a six-disc CD/DVD changer, to be
used with the rear-seat entertainment system.
Available Models
The 2004 Dodge Caravan is offered in SE and SXT trims. Grand
Caravans are presented in SE, SXT and eX trims.
Interior Features
Both Caravan sizes seat seven passengers. Optional this
year is a 50-50 split third-row bench seat. Each portion
weighs 55 pounds and can be removed, reclined, or folded
flat for extra cargo-carrying versatility.
Power-adjustable brake and accelerator pedals are optional
on all 2004 Dodge Caravan models. A power liftgate, a power
sunroof and the rear DVD entertainment system are optional
on Grand eX and SXT. They feature the new tire-pressure
monitor.
The special Anniversary Edition has unique two-tone leather
seating, the six-disc CD/DVD changer, embroidered anniversary
edition floor mats and the entertainment system as a no-charge
option.
Exterior Features
Grand eX and SXT models have power operation for both sliding
side doors; a power passenger-side sliding door is optional
on the regular-length SXT. The Anniversary Edition has unique
badging and 16-inch chrome wheels.
Performance
Three capable engines lead the way for 2004. Base Caravan
SE models use a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with
150 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. They, like other
Caravan trims, use a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Uplevel 2004 Dodge Caravan models and base Grand Caravans
are fitted with a 3.3-liter V6 engine. It is capable of
producing up to 180 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, Grand Caravan SXT and eX models have a 3.8-liter
V6 engine that will churn out with 215 horsepower and 245
lb-ft of torque. The Grand Caravan SXT is the only model
of the lot that offers all-wheel drive for 2004.
Safety and Security
The 2004 Caravan family features dual front airbags, the
LATCH child seat system, front seatbelt pretensioners and
an automatic transaxle brake-park interlock. Options include
an alarm system and side impact airbags.
