With the 2004 Dodge Neon, you are offered everything from
a cheap, no-frills subcompact car with very little in the
way of standard equipment (and price) to a high-powered
roadster with a super aggressive style. In the end, the
choice is yours.
The speedy Neon mentioned is the SRT-4, the second fastest
of all the Dodge cars. It has been given a power boost for
2004, lowering its 0-60 mph time to just 5.8 seconds.
The majority of the changes to the Neon line for 2004 are
reserved for the SRT-4. In addition to its increased power,
the SRT-4 has a new torque-sensing limited-slip differential
for control and acceleration around corners, plus larger
fuel injectors.
Available Models
The 2004 Dodge Neon is offered in four model trims: SE,
SXT, R/T and SRT-4.
Interior Features
The 2004 Dodge Neon sits five passengers. To underscore
the Dodge SRT-4's performance capability, unique bright
pedal pads are a new feature. An optional sunroof package
also is available for 2004.
Base SE models don't really come with that much. Their
standard package includes cloth upholstery, front bucket
seats, a center console, cupholders and an AM/FM/cassette
player.
Moving up to the sporty R/T model gets you quite a bit
more. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and
an AM/FM/cassette player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer
are included.
Exterior Features
A rear spoiler also adorns the exterior of the R/T. With
the revised SRT-4, Electric Blue paint replaces Solar Yellow
this year. Other colors include Flame Red, Black and Bright
Silver Metallic.
Performance
The Neon's estimated fuel economy rating earned it one of
the top 10 spots on a survey of the most fuel-efficient
2003 model-year vehicles. The range of engines includes
three inline 4-cylinder models, each with varying power
levels.
Entry-level SE models use a 2.0-liter I4 that produces 132
horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. R/T models use a similar-sized
engine, with specs of 150 horsepower and 135 lb-ft of torque.
With all models, 5-speed manual transmission is standard.
The 2004 SRT-4's upgraded 2.4-liter I4 engine now produces
230 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The engine uses
a new NGC3 control module with an updated calibration that
widens the torque range. The broader range reduces torque
drop off, while providing more torque at lower rpm levels
for less shifting under normal driving conditions.
Safety and Security
The 2004 Dodge Neon includes a LATCH child seat anchorage
system, child-protection door locks and an emergency internal
trunk lid release. Front side airbags are optional.
