The Dodge Stratus coupe skids into 2004 without much change
from last year's model. While the 2004 Stratus sedan was
given a fresh front styling makeover mid-model year and
a redesignation as a 2004 model, Stratus coupes got their
new look last fall. However, that isn't to say that they
are out-of-date. But if you missed picking up last year's
model, there's plenty of time to get the new Stratus coupe.
The two-door 2004 Dodge Stratus coupe is perfect for taking
tight turns, but it also has the type of road manners and
interior comfort for long, cross-country treks. It is cool
enough for first dates; big enough for first times, as Dodge
puts it. Style, handling and practicality come together
with the Stratus coupe.
Available Models
The 2004 Dodge Stratus coupe is offered in an entry-level
SXT model and an R/T model.
Interior Features
Five passengers fit nicely into the two-door coupe. It offers
16.3 cubic feet of cargo room to handle a wide variety of
transporting needs. In terms of features, the base SXT standard
package includes air conditioning, an AM/FM radio with in-dash
4-disc CD changer, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a height-adjustable
driver seat, a center console, power mirrors, windows and
door locks and a rear defogger. The R/T model adds a leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls, remote keyless entry,
an Infinity sound system and more.
The makers at Dodge keep a nice options list handy in case
potential buyers want to spice up either coupe model. A
Leather Interior Package, offered with R/T models, consists
of plush leather upholstery, a 6-way power passenger seat,
a universal garage door opener, an automatic day/night rearview
mirror, an outside temperature indicator and a compass.
Exterior Features
The 2004 Dodge Stratus coupe has a sleeker, flashier exterior
design than the sedan. This is especially so of the R/T
model, which comes with a rear spoiler, alloy wheels and
integrated fog lights. In addition, with the R/T a power
sunroof is available.
Performance
Though it will never be confused with a high-powered roadster,
the 2004 Dodge Stratus coupe is nevertheless no slouch either.
The efficient engine under the hood of the base SXT is a
2.4-liter, four-cylinder model that provides 147 horsepower
at 5500 rpm and 158 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. If you
want more power, you need only ascend to the R/T, which
ups the juice with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that can produce
200 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 205 lb-ft of torque at 4500
rpm.=
Both engines can be mated to either 4-speed automatic transmission
or 5-speed manual transmission. With the R/T, Dodge offers
available AutoStick manual shift capability that gives drivers
of automatic-transmission models the option to take over
the shifting when they want. The handling is also a little
tighter on R/Ts, thanks to its steering setup and sport
suspension.
Safety and Security
The 2004 Dodge Stratus coupe has a safety cage construction
with steel side-guard door beams. 4-wheel disc antilock
brakes with low-speed traction control are available on
R/T models and side airbags are available on both coupe
models.
