Part of a triumvirate of models with a sleek, bullet-like
design, the 2004 Dodge Intrepid is a full-size sedan known
for its passenger room, silky-smooth ride and sharp handling
ability. The Chrysler Concorde and 300M are the other models
that share a similar platform with this Dodge mainstay,
but the Intrepid distinguishes itself with its unique styling.
Redesignated midyear as a 2004 model, the new Dodge Intrepid
is out early for enthusiasts of this hard-working sedan.
Spreading three capable engines across the line, the most
powerful of which easily gets the Intrepid up to speed,
the goal of customer satisfaction is clearly in mind. The
Intrepid combines this variety of choice with generous appointments
and an affordable price tag as well.
Available Models
The 2004 Dodge Intrepid is offered in three model trims:
SE, ES and SXT. Last year's R/T model trim is discontinued.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Dodge Intrepid is a full-size sedan in
every sense of the word. It offers seating for up to six
adult passengers, if need be, and provides owners with 18.4
cubic feet of cargo volume and a 60/40 split folding rear
seat to work with.
All of Intrepid's climate control buttons are within easy
reach and placed clearly in view. They control the outlets
in the front and rear, and the air conditioning with the
available automatic temperature control included with ES.
While the entry-level SE model takes care of the necessities,
ES and SXT trims add such standards as cruise control, a
leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-way power driver seat
and an AM/FM/CD player. Options include a power sunroof
and an Infiniti AM/FM cassette player with in-dash 6-disc
CD changer (ES, SXT).
Exterior Features
The Dodge Intrepid has a distinct, lowered body that remains
sleek and agile-looking for 2004. Designed to reduce wind
drag, Intrepid's design gives driver and passenger alike
a wide, expansive view of the road.
Performance
The three-engine lineup with the 2004 Dodge Intrepid proceeds
as follows. SE models receive a 2.7-liter V6 model with
ratings of 200 horsepower 190 lb-ft of torque. The next
engine, in ES models, is a 3.5-liter V6 with 234 horsepower
and 241 lb-ft of torque. The fastest of them all is the
top-line SXT (as it should be). It has a 3.5-liter V6 as
well, but with specs of 250 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of
torque.
All engines are mated to an adaptive 4-speed automatic
transmission. 4-wheel independent touring suspension is
derived from the Intrepid's Winston Cup cousins, and comes
standard on ES and SXT models.
Safety and Security
The 2004 Dodge Intrepid has dual front airbags, the LATCH
child seat tether system and front height-adjustable shoulder/lap
belts. Antilock brakes and front side airbags are standard.
