The Chrysler Concorde enters the 2004 model year on an
impressive streak. For the third straight time it has received
Consumer Guide's Best Buy distinction, an honor that recognizes
the combination of drivability and value. The new Concorde,
though mostly unchanged in terms of equipment, continues
to feature real room for six, exceptional road manners,
plenty of power and hefty manufacturer discounts. Not surprising
then are its accolades.
With the Chrysler nameplate proudly displayed in its front
grille and its steep windshield literally sweeping away
wind resistance, the 2004 Chrysler Concorde cuts an impressive
figure. Offered in a number of different configurations,
its lineup is also able to provide an indecisive car-buyer's
dream: variety.
Available Models
The variety of models alluded to above refers to the 2004
Chrysler Concorde's three-pronged attack. From base to top-line
trim, the model configuration is as follows: LX, LXi and
Limited.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Chrysler Concorde is a full-size sedan
in every sense of the word. All six passengers are given
ample space to stretch out in. Up front, over 42 inches
of leg room are available, while the rear passengers receive
over 41 inches to make use of. The trunk of the new Concorde
is just as spacious as the rest of the vehicle, allowing
owners to stow large items away with ease.
Standard features on the Chrysler Concorde LXi and Limited
models include leather upholstery, a tilt leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, air
conditioning with automatic climate control and a handy
trip computer. Each trim is offered with a special options
package, or items can be added individually.
Exterior Features
The 2004 Chrysler Concorde has the same underskin design
as the Chrysler 300M and the Dodge Intrepid. The key feature
of these models' exterior styling is the sleek line they
present. Instantly recognizable, they look like bullets
cutting through the sky.
Performance
Each of the three Chrysler Concorde models has a distinct
engine. The entry-level LX model is given a 2.7-liter V6
with 200 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. LXi models
have a 3.5-liter V6 with 234 horsepower and 241 lb-ft of
torque, while Limited models feature the same size engine
with 250 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. 4-speed automatic
is the transmission of choice.
The 2004 Chrysler Concorde benefits from a north-south
powertrain setup, which places the engine ahead of the front
axle centerline and most of the transmission behind it.
This arrangement results in ample room for suspension hardware
and passengers, at the same time facilitating a symmetrical
layout for underhood components.
Safety and Security
The Limited model has standard antilock brakes, which can
be added to both the LX and LXi trims. Airbags for the driver
and front-passenger enhance occupant safety along with height-adjustable
seat belts. Available supplemental side airbags offer additional
protection to the driver and front outboard passenger in
the event of a collision.
