When you look at the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser, it is like
being transported back to the true glory days of the American
automobile. Retro-styled, the PT Cruiser hopes to usher
in a new age of accomplishment. Since its inception, the
PT Cruiser has steadily improved itself with the dawning
of each model year, and 2004 is no different.
The main news for the new year is the introduction of an
optional engine to the PT Cruiser family. It makes turbocharged
power available for less money, a welcome addition to people
on a budget who nevertheless like to crank things up once
and awhile.
Available Models
The 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser is offered in four models:
base, Touring, Limited Edition and GT.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser's innovative design
transfers versatility to the owner. It seats five and features
a front passenger seat that folds and a rear seat that stows
or removes for extra cargo room. All total, the result is
64.2 cubic feet of space.
There are a variety of models to choose from, as well as
a number of attractive options. One, available on all models,
is a Sirius® Satellite Radio Receiver. It is factory-installed
for 2004, and includes a one-year subscription.
Another new option is a hands-free communication system.
It uses controls on the electrochromic rearview mirror to
provide hands-free, in-vehicle communication. Integrated
into the PT Cruiser's electrical architecture, the audio
is heard through radio speakers, with the customer's own
cellular phone conveniently placed anywhere in the vehicle.
Exterior Features
The options keep coming. A liftgate-mounted, body-colored
spoiler is also available for 2004.
Performance
With the new optional engine, there are now three to choose
from with the 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The first, standard
on base, Touring and Limited Edition models, is a 2.4-liter
inline 4-cylinder model with 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm
and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed automatic and
5-speed manual transmission are both offered.
The new optional engine is available with Touring and Limited
Edition models. It is a 2.4-liter turbocharged I4 with 180
horsepower at 5200 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm.
Top-line GT models employ another 2.4-liter turbocharged
inline 4-cylinder engine. It delivers 220 horsepower at
5100 rpm and 245 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm.
Safety and Security
A rear seat trapped occupant release, rear door child protection
locks and the LATCH child seat anchorage system are standard
on all Chrysler PT Cruiser models, as are driver and passenger
front airbags.
