The Toyota RAV4 twists, turns and skids into the 2004 model
year with new styling features inside and out. But that's
not all that's in store for 2004. The RAV4 also has more
safety equipment and more interior equipment as well.
And let's not forget about a larger, more powerful engine
that's thrown into the fold. Clearly, Toyota was concerned
with lifting up the appeal of its compact sport utility
vehicle. It is also equally clear that they've succeeded
in their quest.
Now, Toyota sits back and waits for the customers to roll
in. And roll in they should.
Available Models
The 2004 Toyota RAV4 is offered in one base model. However,
there are a number of optional packages and stand-alone
items available this year.
Interior Features
The Toyota RAV4 is a four-door wagon with seating for five.
When you add everything up, the compact SUV provides 68.3
cubic feet of cargo space.
The new 2004 Toyota RAV4 has more standard features. They
include power mirrors, steering-wheel audio controls and
variable-intermittent windshield wipers. Air conditioning
and an AM/FM/CD player are also part of the deal.
Toyota offers and Upgrade Package L for 2004. It adds heated
color-keyed mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and
shift knob and rear privacy glass.
Exterior Features
Also included with the Upgrade Package L are fog lights
and a color-keyed spare tire cover and bumpers.
A Sport Package is another optional group for 2004. With
such features as color-keyed door handles, a roof rack,
overfenders and a hood scoop, it gives the RAV4 a fresh,
eye-catching style.
Performance
2004 Toytoa RAV4 models have noticeably more jump thanks
to a new inline 4-cylinder engine. They get off the blocks
quicker and accelerate at higher speeds better.
The new engine is a 2.4-liter I4. It pumps out 161 horsepower
at 5700 rpm and 165 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The 2004
Toytoa RAV4 can be had with 5-speed manual transmission
or an extra-cost 4-speed automatic transmission.
A retuned suspension is one of the many improvements engineers
made to the RAV4's ride. But then, they pretty much upgraded
every aspect of the vehicle.
Safety and Security
Rear disc brakes instead of drums are now found on the Toyota
RAV4 as part of the antilock brake system, which had been
optional. A tire-pressure monitor is another fresh piece
of equipment for the 2004 RAV4.
And the innovations keep coming. Available front torso
side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags are
a first for the 2004 Toyota RAV4 compact SUV. Also new this
year is an antiskid/traction-control system.
