A redesign was in store after the 2003 model year for Toyota's
formidable minivan, and the Japanese manufacturer delivered
on its promise. Sienna fans will certainly be glad they
did. The new version is bigger, strong, safer and more comfortable.
Really, there wasn't much more designers and engineers
could have done to the 2004 Toyota Sienna short of renaming
it. Quite simply completely improved, this year's Sienna
is ready to take the title as the most versatile of all
minivans.
The people at Consumer Guide might agree to that statement.
Again, they've given the Sienna their 'Recommended' status,
which is no small accomplishment.
Available Models
The 2004 Toyota Sienna is offered in a total of four models:
CE, LE, XLE and XLE Limited.
Interior Features
Seating flexibility is a real attractive feature with the
Sienna. All models have second-row bucket seats for seven-passenger
seating. In addition, CE and LE trims can carry eight passengers
via an optional second-row bench seat whose middle section
is sized for a child safety seat.
The standard 60/40 split third-row bench seat also folds
into the floor, making it easier to maximize the Sienna's
148.9 cubic feet of cargo space.
If you want extra comfort, the XLE Limited trim is the
only model for you. It has leather upholstery, heated front
seats, a woodgrain/leather-wrapped steering wheel, radar
cruise control and a power sunroof.
Exterior Features
2004 Toyota Siennas are bigger than before. The minivan
grows 5.1 inches in wheelbase, 6.5 inches overall, 3.9 inches
in width and gains nearly 200 lbs.
Standard features for all include power windows for the
dual sliding side doors. XLE and Limited models have dual
power doors and a power liftgate.
Performance
More power is the big news for the 2004 Sienna. And that's
always good.
The new engine is a dual-overhead-cam 3.3-liter V6 with
230 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 242 lb-ft of torque at 3600
rpm. Standard with 2004 models is a new 5-speed automatic
transmission (replacing last year's 4-speed system). Toyota
also moves the shift lever to the lower-center dashboard.
Front-wheel drive is the standard, but all-wheel drive
is available on all models but the entry-level CE. The AWD
system also comes with run-flat tires.
Safety and Security
All Toyota Siennas have antilock 4-wheel disc brakes with
brake assist, dual front airbags and a tire-pressure monitor.
The top-line XLE Limited comes with front side airbags,
curtain side airbags and high-intensity headlights. In addition,
it features a front and rear obstacle detection system.
