When the Chrysler PT Cruiser first hit the market, it created
such a stir that dealers could hardly meet the demand. Here
we had a modern vehicle packed with luxuries that performed
extremely well, was practical and versatile, and it came
in an incredible nostalgic package that harkens back to
the old days. The new 2002 PT Cruiser promises more of the
same, with a new factory option that's sure to create some
excitement.
Available Models
Unlike many other vehicles that are highly unique
like the Prowler Hot Rod, the PT Cruiser is available in
a number of models to suit your needs. People are not just
buying it for its originality, but for its user-friendliness
and practicality. There is the PT Cruiser Base model, PT
Cruiser Touring model, and the PT Cruiser Limited model.
Interior Features
New standards for 2002 include a passenger side
armrest, AM/FM radio with CD player, and front passenger
under seat storage bin. Among the new optional features
for the base model are power door locks with central lock
and programmable rolling lock feature, and a remote keyless
entry system.
The Touring Edition highlights standard power door locks,
remote keyless entry, light group with overhead console,
Sentry Key and security alarm system, a handy cargo net,
and fold-flat front seat. The PT Cruiser Limited Edition
sports leather upholstery, sixteen-inch chrome wheels, a
moon roof, and a new driver's seat adjustable lumbar support.
Fold/tumble/removable seats and multi-position cargo shelf
can create in excess of 25 seating configurations and loads
of flat cargo area that can accommodate objects up to eight
feet long.
Exterior Features
Of course, the strongest point in this category
is the PT Cruiser's classic design. Other exterior features
include new exterior colors and heated dual power outside
mirrors. The Touring Edition adds sunscreen glass, sixteen-inch
painted cast aluminum wheels, all-season tires, front fog
lights, and chrome exhaust tip. The Limited Edition PT Cruiser
features sixteen-inch chrome wheels.
New for this year is a tone-on-tone flame pattern rippling
over the hood and front fenders.
Performance
At the heart of the PT Cruiser is a 2.4-litre,
DOHC, 16-valve engine. The standard transmission is a five-speed
manual, with four-speed automatic available to you as an
option. The rigid body and high-strength steel contribute
to a solid ride, enhanced further by a MacPherson strut
front suspension and trailing-arm twist beam rear suspension
with Watts linkage that makes handling precise and clean.
Safety and Security
The Chrysler PT Cruiser is equipped with standards and
options that include a driver depowered air bag, passenger
depowered air bag, remote keyless entry system, theft deterrent
system, three-point seatbelts, child seat tether and anchors,
and child safety locks.
