The PT Cruiser is back for another year of neck-jerking
attention grabbing. This retro-styled model has a hard time
going unnoticed, and that is something prospective customers
should always consider when looking into this unique vehicle.
Yet though it has the unmistakable look of a luxurious car,
the price tag on the 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser is low enough
to seem decidedly out of place. But that is something owners
will never complain about.
For 2003, the PT Cruiser lineup adds a turbocharged model
for more spine-tingling excitement. Other improvements ensure
that the 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser is as modern as they come.
Available Models
The 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser is offered in four trim levels:
Base, Touring, Limited and the new GT.
Interior Features
All PT Cruisers have a 5-seat wagon body style. Though its
design may seem to be purely for aesthetic reasons, it also
results in functional applications. In addition to seating
five, the PT Cruiser also boasts a total cargo volume of
64.2 cubic ft.
Driver and passenger comfort are taken care of with the
PT Cruiser's mix of standard features. While the Base model
handles all the essentials, the upper-level models go quite
a bit further to surround everyone in luxury. A mixed leather/suede
upholstery, a driver-seat power height adjuster and lumbar
adjustment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an AM/FM/cassette/CD
player and a power sunroof are some of the amenities found
on the Limited and GT models.
Exterior Features
Everyone recognizes the PT Cruiser. Shocking at first, even
angering to some, the PT Cruiser has gradually worn away
the prejudices that first accompanied its introduction.
People will resist change for as long as they can, until
finally they accept innovation. Such was the case with the
2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
Performance
Base, Touring and Limited models are given a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder
engine to work with. It produces 150 horsepower at 5200
rpm and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The new GT powers
over paved streets with a turbocharged engine with the same
dimensions, capable of delivering 215 horsepower at 5000
rpm and 245 lb-ft. of torque at 3600 rpm.
Both of the engines in the PT Cruiser can be mated to either
4-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed manual transmission.
PT Cruiser's available Low-Speed Traction Control keeps
the front (driving) wheels from slipping during acceleration.
Safety and Security
All 2003 PT Cruiser models have dual front airbags. The
Limited adds front side airbags, while the GT also has antilock
4-wheel disc brakes (optional with other models). Front
side airbags are available as well.
