The full-size pickup segment has just been upped one notch.
With the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500's new 5.7-liter HEMI engine,
the manufacturer hopes to wrestle control of the market.
Now boasting the most powerful mass production light-duty
pickup truck in the Ram 1500, Dodge is well on their way.
There are plenty of other upgrades for 2004. The 2004 Dodge
Ram 1500 now features an optional full-time four-wheel drive
system, and a new Tow/Haul transmission is also added for
2004. In addition, a navigation system is also available.
Available Models
The 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 is offered in two body styles: a
two-door regular cab and a Quad Cab four-door crew cab.
Both come in ST and uplevel SLT trims with cargo beds of
6.3 ft or 8 ft.
Interior Features
Regular cabs sit three, while Quad Cabs handle six. Both
are as rugged as they come.
The 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab is also now bigger than ever.
Dodge manufacturers took three inches out of the short bed
length and added it to the rear of the cab, creating a larger
rear seating area with improved leg and hip room while maintaining
payload capacity.
If you want interior decadence, a Laramie package is available
with uplevel SLT models. It includes dual-zone manual climate
controls, power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, an
Infinity AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and
a satin-silver instrument panel, among other things.
Exterior Features
On the outside, the Laramie package adds a new, all-chrome
grille surround and chrome billet grille center, as well
as chrome bodyside moldings.
Performance
There are three engines offered for 2004. The base model
is a 3.7-liter V6. It delivers 215 horsepower at 5200 rpm
and 235 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The second engine is
a tough 4.7-liter V8, producing 235 horsepower at 4800 rpm
and 300 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm.
Finally, there's the newly optional 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine.
It cranks out a whopping 345 horsepower at 5400 rpm and
300 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. A unique 5-speed automatic
is standard with the HEMI-the only transmission in its class
with the reverse gear ratio equal to the low gear ratio.
All 2004 Dodge Ram 1500s are available with rear-wheel
drive or 4WD that must be disengaged on dry pavement. SLT
models now offer all-wheel drive as well.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags and 4-wheel disc brakes with antilock
rear brakes are standard. The Laramie package includes front
and rear antilock brakes, while curtain side airbags are
optional.
