So you're looking for a crossover SUV/pickup truck, but
you want one with refinement, power, loads of interior comfort
and a nameplate that just demands respect. If these are
the points on your wish list, there is only one model you
need to consider: the 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT.
The 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT is a luxury sport utility
truck. If you thought that there was no way to combine luxury
with the brawn and toughness needed in a pickup, think again.
The Escalade EXT can pretty much do it all. And for 2004,
the EXT debuts even more standard equipment than before.
Available Models
The 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT is offered in one base trim.
The Escalade and Escalade ESV are each covered in separate
reviews.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT can seat five passengers
max. It has a carefully designed instrument cluster featuring
an ebony background with white graphics and control knobs.
This lets drivers easily read information and results in
a harmonious, integrated look.
Being a luxury vehicle, the Escalade EXT has no problem
spoiling you with standard features. XM Satellite radio,
the OnStar System, air conditioning with automatic climate
control, heated front seats, an overhead console (universal
garage-door opener, rear radio controls, rear headphone
jacks) and a seven-speaker Bose AM/FM/cassette player with
in-dash 6-disc CD changer top the list.
For 2004, you can add a sunroof and a rear DVD entertainment
center together. Before, you had to choose one or the other.
Sure was tough back then, wasn't it?
Exterior Features
The transforming Escalade EXT is a crew cab pickup with
a midgate wall between the cab and cargo bed. Once the rear
window is removed and the midgate folded with the rear seat,
its cargo bed extends from 5.3 ft to 8.1 ft.
Performance
Like the rest of the Escalade lineup, the EXT has a massive,
spine-tingling engine under its hood. It is a 6.0-liter
Vortec V8 with 345 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 380 lb-ft
of torque at 4000 rpm. It is linked to a heavy-duty, electronically
controlled 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
Electronic throttle control provides precise throttle progression.
All-wheel drive is standard. The Escalade EXT is able to
handle everything any road can throw at it with GM's StabiliTrak
stability system and road-sensing suspension.
Safety and Security
Safety is paramount with all 2004 Escalade models. The EXT
has side-impact door beams and energy-absorbing foam blocks
on the interior to help protect occupants against head injuries.
Other features include antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, dual
front airbags, front side airbags, all-speed traction control,
a rear-obstacle detection system and a tire-pressure monitor.
