The 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT is an exercise in extremes.
Extreme luxury, extreme power, extreme versatility! The
EXT is a luxury sport utility truck. If you thought that
there was no way to combine luxury with the brawn and toughness
needed in a pickup, think again. It seats five and, like
the Chevy Avalanche, has a collapsible midgate wall separating
the truck bad from the cab. Lowered, the truck bed is longer
but the seating is reduced to two. So there is your versatility.
The engine is one of the most powerful in an SUV, coming
from a 6-liter V8. There is your power. As for luxury
lets
just say, it easier to add up the features it doesn't have
than those it does. Oh, and the ones it doesn't have are
available as optional extras.
Available Models
The 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT is offered in one base trim.
The Escalade SUV and the extended ESV and extra-luxury ESV
Platinum are each covered in separate reviews.
Interior Features
The four-door Cadillac Escalade EXT is a capital L Luxury
vehicle
and the luxury is everywhere. XM Satellite
radio, OnStar emergency assistance and communication, tri-zone
automatic climate control, heated front seats, an overhead
console (universal garage-door opener, rear radio controls,
rear headphone jacks) and a seven-speaker Bose AM/FM/cassette
player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer top the list.
Available as options are such features as touch-screen
controlled navigation, DVD entertainment, and a power sunroof
and
wait a minute, the rest is all included! Actually,
I'm wrong, admittedly you have to get the ESV Platinum Edition
for the heated and cooled cup-holders!
Exterior Features
The transforming Escalade EXT is a crew cab pickup with
a midgate wall between the cab and cargo bed. Once the rear
window is removed and the midgate folded with the rear seat,
its cargo bed extends from 5.3 ft to 8.1 ft. The standard
towing package includes hitch and frame, wiring harness,
load-levelling suspension and a boat. No
boat and trailer
are extra, but you do have over 7000lbs of capacity to pull
with so get a big boat.
Performance
Like the rest of the Cadillac Escalade lineup, the EXT has
a massive, spine-tingling engine under its hood. It is a
6.0-liter Vortec V8 with 345 horsepower at 5200 rpm and
380 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is linked to a heavy-duty,
electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission
with overdrive. Electronic throttle control provides precise
throttle progression.
All-wheel drive is standard. The Escalade EXT is able to
handle everything any road can throw at it with GM's StabiliTrak
stability system and road-sensing suspension.
Safety and Security
Naturally, with all the other details, the designers haven't
forgotten about safety. The Escalade EXT features antilock
4-wheel disc brakes, antiskid, traction control, rear-obstacle
detection, dual front and front-side airbags, and a tire-pressure
monitor.
