Cadillac has enjoyed great success with the Deville in
it current form and it hasn't changed the engine or body
for 2005. However, significant hardware upgrades have been
implemented to add services for safety, security and communications
through sixth-generation OnStar hardware and the OnStar
Virtual Advisor.
In addition, the 2005 Cadillac Deville is offered with
new exterior colours, Green Silk, Light Cashmere and Glacier
Gold.
Late in 2004, Cadillac also introduced its protection series;
a new armored DeVille model. In the post 9/11 world, the
demand for higher levels of security have been great, and
Cadillac offers this new model to meet those demands. With
bulletproof glass, a special run-flat tire system and a
self-sealing fuel tank, this new DeVille is easily the safest
ever.
Available Models
The 2005 Cadillac DeVille is offered in three trims-base,
DHS and DTS-plus the new armored version.
Interior Features
The four-door Cadillac DeVille, being the biggest car offered
by Cadillac, is extremely roomy, to say the least. It can
seat six passenger if need be, and not one of them will
complain about lack of space.
The new heated and cooled front seats are standard on the
DHS and DTS and optional on the base model. The system has
three levels each of cooling, full-seat heating and back-only
heating, making the DeVille the first vehicle with cooled
seats that has the ability to heat only the seatbacks. Also
thrown into this package is a heated steering wheel for
cold winter days.
The usual laundry list of standard luxury features are
offered-air conditioning with tri-zone automatic climate
controls, leather upholstery, the OnStar system-plus a few
options. XM satellite radio tops this list.
The new OnStar Gen 6 hardware includes upgraded hands-free
voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive
continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition
accuracy. OnStar features core safety services and OnStar
Personal Calling that allows drivers to make and receive
hands-free, voice-activated phone calls using a powerful
three-watt digital/analog system and external antenna for
greater reception.
Also, 2005 Cadillac owners will receive 12 months of complimentary
access to Cadillac Virtual Advisor by OnStar. Virtual Advisor
provides three-day weather forecasts and traffic reports
within pre-selected ranges of 5, 10 or 15 miles of the vehicle's
location in most major markets and also monitors traffic
for up to three personalized routes and even reports information
on up to 10 selected stocks on the DJI and NASDAQ markets
- all at the touch of a single button.
Exterior Features
The 2005 Cadillac DeVille maintains the clean, long lines
of last year's design. Green Silk, Light Cashmere and Glacier
Gold are the new exterior colours.
Performance
Base and DHS models are equipped with a 4.6-liter Northstar
V8 engine with 275 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 300 lb-ft
of torque at 4000 rpm. The top-line DTS has a 4.6-liter
Northstar V8 with 300 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 295 lb-ft
of torque at 4400 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is
standard.
DTS models also come with StabiliTrak, Cadillac's world-class
stability-control system (optional on other models) and
continuously variable road-sensing suspension.
Safety and Security
Night Vision is back with the Cadillac DeVille, applying
military thermal-imaging technology to let drivers see objects
beyond headlight range during nighttime driving. Full-range
traction control, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, dual front
airbags and front side airbags are all standard. Fully-armoured
Devilles are available in regular or 8-inch stretch model.
