Cadillac just keeps on delivering more and more new, modern
cars. The SRX is the latest of the bunch, a model that aggressively
rolls into the medium luxury segment with all sorts of innovative
features, refinement and power.
However, though it is in the luxury utility segment, the
2004 Cadillac SRX has the feel and look of a sedan. This
is because it borrows the same Sigma architecture used by
the Cadillac CTS. Modified for the SRX, the result is the
longest wheelbase in its class and a superior ride quality
and dynamic stability.
Available Models
The 2004 Cadillac SRX is offered in a V6 model and a V8
model.
Interior Features
The four-door Cadillac SRX wagon has an optional two-passenger
third-row seat that powers up or down flush with the rear
cargo floor. This gives the SRX the ability to seat up to
seven people.
It wouldn't be a Cadillac if it weren't loaded to the brim
with standard features. V6 models have a lot; V8 models
even more. Air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate
controls, the OnStar telematics system, a tilt leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio and climate controls, cruise control
and leather upholstery are standard with both.
One of the most appealing options is the largest sunroof
in the segment. The optional "UltraView" sunroof
extends to provide 5.6 feet of open air over the first and
second row seats and integrates a retractable power shade.
Exterior Features
The wagon-style 2004 Cadillac SRX has a sleek, shiny look
with a front-end that reminds one of the CTS. V6 models
use 17-inch wheels; V8s 18-inchers. The SRX also has a manual
liftgate without a separate opening window.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations are
available. The V6 is a 3.6-liter variable-valve timing model
that produces 255 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 250 lb-ft of
torque at 3200 rpm. 5-speed automatic with manual-shift
capability is the sole transmission.
The V8 engine is a 4.6-liter Northstar variable-valve timing
model. It lets the SRX really move with 320 horsepower at
6400 rpm and 315 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.
The new Cadillac SRX also features the latest four-channel
StabiliTrak active suspension control and available segment-first
Magnetic Ride Control. The electronically controlled magnetic-fluid
based real-time damping is the world's fastest-reacting
suspension control system.
Safety and Security
The safety features are plentiful. Dual front airbags, side
airbags, front and second-row curtain side airbags, an antiskid
system, a rear-obstacle detection system and antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes are all standard.
