Unlike the regular length version of the Chevrolet Express, the extended length model doesn't receive any changes this year. While the regular length gets the StabiliTrak vehicle stability system in 2005, the extended length does not. However, the reason for that is simple: extended length Express vans already have StabiliTrak.

Extended length Express vans are behemoth vehicles that are intended to handle heavy cargo and passenger-carrying applications. It shouldn't come as surprise to hear that they are also frequently used in commercial applications.

Available Models
The 2005 extended length Chevrolet Express is offered in two models: G2500 and G3500.

Interior Features
The Express extended length has a wheelbase of 155 inches-or 20 inches longer than the regular length model. This allows ¾-ton G2500 models and 1-ton G3500 models to sit up to fifteen passengers. In addition, there is 316.8 cubic feet of space for cargo.

The 2005 Express has integrated armrests, door pull handles, window and lock control switches and mirrors. Front doors include storage pockets. In addition, there is an added storage tray, twin trip odometers, a second power outlet, a third console cupholder, loop-style coat hooks and durable carpeting.

Exterior Features
Extended length 2005 Express models have two swing-open rear cargo doors and, on the passenger side, either 60/40 doors or a sliding door. 60/40 doors on the driver side are optional.

Performance
Vortec power is chosen to drive the Express lineup. The G2500 comes with a 4.8-liter Vortec V8 with 285 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. 1-ton G3500 models are equipped with a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 with 300 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. This engine is optional with G2500s.

The rear-wheel drive Express uses a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. It also features GM's unique tow/haul mode, which reduces the frequency and improves the predictability of transmission shifts when pulling a trailer or carrying a heavy load.
The standard StabiliTrak vehicle stability enhancement system works by recognizing wheel skid and applying brake force to recover traction and maintain a direct course.

Safety and Security
The 2005 Express has 4-wheel antilock disc brakes with a Hydroboost hydraulic assist power brake booster. Additional safety items include dual stage front airbags, three-point safety belts, the LATCH child seat system and available OnStar services.

OnStar-equipped Express models feature new sixth-generation hardware with digital and analog coverage. OnStar's Gen 6 hardware also includes upgraded hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy.
