Improvements to the interior cabin head the list of changes
for the 2003 Ford Taurus. The floor body has been given
added damping and a series of quality measures to reduce
air leakage and cabin noise, including the use of expanding
foam in the A-pillar and other body cavities and the use
of new sealing material in weld access holes. The result
is an upgraded ride with this versatile vehicle, a feature
that will surely attract customers shopping for a reliable
midsize car.
Available Models
The 2003 Ford Taurus is available in two body styles: four-door
sedan and four-door wagon. A standard 3-passenger front
bench seat on base models gives sedans 6-passenger capacity,
while wagons seat eight with a 2-passenger rear-facing 3rd-row
seat. In addition, there are four trim levels to choose
from: LX, SE, SES and SEL.
Interior Features
The 2003 Ford Taurus has new interior color clusters that
give a fresh feel to the cabin. Both leather and cloth seating
fabrics have been improved as well. While there are a wide
variety of configurations for the Taurus, the base LX is
still given a good number of indispensable features. Up
at the Deluxe version of the SEL, however, the refinement
really spills over the brim.
Practicality certainly isn't overlooked either. The Taurus
sedan trunks have 16.0 cubic feet of luggage volume, with
a low liftover height of 26.0 inches for easy loading and
unloading and wagon has 81.3 cubic feet of cargo volume
with the rear seatbacks folded down, and 38.8 cubic feet
with the seatbacks in their upright positions.
Exterior Features
Gold Ash Metallic is a new color for 2003. The new SES Sport
model is designed with youthful zeal in mind. The exterior
features a fully monochromatic body with a body-color spear
in grille and a body-color appliqué on the rear deck
lid. Also included are aluminum painted sport wheels, a
rear spoiler and unique "SPORT 24V DOHC" fender
badging round out the exterior of the package.
Performance
The base LX Taurus is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 that
is capable of 155 horsepower at 4900 rpm and 185 lb-ft of
torque at 3900 rpm. It has a good fuel economy at 20/28
mpg (city/hwy). From the SE Deluxe Wagon and up, the standard
engine is a dual overhead cam V6. Also a 3.0-liter, is offers
200 horsepower at 5650 rpm and 200 lb-ft at 4400 rpm. It
rates at 20/27 mpg (city/hwy). 4-speed automatic transmission
is standard across the board.
Safety and Security
Dual-stage front airbags are offered on all Ford Taurus
models. Beginning at the SE model, 4-wheel antilock disc
brakes are standard. On the top-line SEL Premium, traction
control and front side airbags are provided.
