The Ford Focus is the world's best-selling small car. That
was no misprint - the most popular small car in the entire
world, and it has this distinction for a number of reasons.
The 2003 Ford Focus is affordable, comfortable and safe,
and it has the perfect blend of handling and power. With
an almost exorbitant number of different configurations,
the Focus offers a style fit for anyone in the market for
a five-passenger vehicle.
Available Models
The 2003 Ford Focus is available in four distinct body styles:
three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, four-door wagon and
the five-door hatchback. There are different trim levels
for each of the body types, starting with the LX model on
four-door sedans and moving all the way up to the sporty
SVT model for hatchbacks.
Interior Features
The 2003 Ford Focus is given two new contemporary fabrics,
and, on high-series vehicles, a silver instrument cluster.
A woven seat material is aimed at younger buyers, while
the textured velour fabric offers a more upscale ambiance.
The LX comes with a theft-deterrent system, rear defog and
driver-side height adjustment. The LX Premium adds air conditioning,
while a ZX3 model for hatchbacks offers a leather-wrapped
steering wheel, AM/FM/CD player and tachometer. The top-line
SVT provides a mixed cloth/leather upholstery, heated mirrors
and power seat adjustment. And that is just naming a few
of the features on a couple of 2003 Ford Focus models.
Options are as plentiful as the model selection. They can
be added as packages or in individual installments. Some
of the items include a Cold Weather Package, traction control
and antilock brakes.
Exterior Features
Light Tundra Clearcoat Metallic and Arizona Beige Clearcoat
Metallic are new paint colors. A new 16-inch alloy wheel
is another first for 2003. In addition, Focus is given painted
gray headlamp surrounds and, on high-series models, body-color
decklid trim.
Performance
There are three different engines available, depending on
the model. All three offer excellent fuel economy, low emissions
and long-lasting durability. The base engine gives 110 horsepower.
It comes with a choice of 5-speed manual transmission (28/36
mpg) or 4-speed automatic (26/32 mpg). The second engine,
standard with uplevel models, puts out 130 horsepower and
has the same fuel ratings. The last engine, in the SVT model
only, pumps out 170 horsepower.
Improved body sealing, a new underbody sprayable deadener
and thicker carpet underlayment result in a major reduction
of road noise. The 2003 Focus is now nearly 2 decibels quieter
on the highway.
Safety and Security
All Ford Focus models are equipped with dual front airbags,
driver's seat position sensor, front outboard safety belt
energy management retractors, front outboard safety belt
pretensioners and front safety belt usage sensors.
