Visit Subaru for more information on the Subaru Legacy.

The 2003 Subaru Legacy sedan is like many other sedans on the road, except for one major feature: Subaru's renown all-wheel drive system. When you combine the safety and handling of AWD with the modest styling and interior comfort of a four-door sedan, the result is one unique vehicle. But then again, it's not that unique. Perhaps it would be so were the Legacy sedan not a Subaru, because it is the manufacturer's trademark to offer all-wheel drive across the entire range of its fleet. And that is certainly a good thing.

Available Models
The 2003 Subaru Legacy sedan is offered in three trim levels: L, L Special Edition and GT. The Legacy is also offered in a wagon body style, which is covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
The 2003 Subaru Legacy sedan and its sibling wagon both accommodate five passengers. While the wagon offers more cargo volume, the sedan focuses its attention on creating a comforting interior environment. Among other things, the instrument panel has been designed for easy use, and the seats are contoured for maximum convenience.

The standard features on the base L model address all the essentials. Air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with CD player, cruise control and power windows are just some of the many appointments on the inside. The L Special Edition adds a power sunroof and other gadgets, while the top-line GT offers leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated power mirrors, an AM/FM/weatherband radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and more. Extra items are always available with the options list as well.

Exterior Features
The 2003 Subaru Legacy sedan has dual power fold-away mirrors, a rear defogger with a timer and daytime running lights. The L Special Edition also comes with all-season tires.

Performance
The 2003 Subaru Legacy sedan shares the same engine with the wagon. It is a horizontally opposed 2.5-liter model capable of 165 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 166 lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The Legacy sedan's suspension system is fully independent, featuring front struts with lower L-arms and liquid-filled rear bushings and a stabilizer bar. The rear is a multi-link system with a stabilizer bar.

Rack-and-pinion steering with engine-speed-sensing variable power assist lets drivers really feel the road. Customers can choose between 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual transmission.

Safety and Security
The 2003 Legacy sedan has all-wheel drive, dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, daytime running lights and an emergency inside trunk release. The GT trim adds front side airbags, while a security system upgrade kit is available with all models.
