Kia's compact sedan. the Optima, is proving a winner once again. The 2003 Kia Optima is loaded with equipment, and oozes comfort. Priced below its competitors, this is the car for consumers seeking value for money.

Available Models
The 2003 Kia Optima is available in the LX and SE models. Both models are 4-door sedans that seat five, and offer either 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission. Both can also be purchased with a choice of engine: 4-cylinder or V6.

Interior Features
In the 2003 Kia Optima, a redesigned dashboard contains new audio and climate controls, and makes everything easy to use and reach. This is a roomy car for its class. Adding to its attractive interior are the following standard features: power door locks, windows, and mirrors, a tachometer, a digital clock, power steering, a tilt steering wheel, and cruise control. The SE model goes a little further. It includes an 8-way power driver seat, automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, and an Infinity AM/FM/cassette/CD player.

Options for the 2003 Kia Optima include the Leather Package, which provides consumers of the SE with leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 4-way power passenger seat.

Exterior Features
The principal changes to the 2003 Kia Optima focus on exterior features. This year, the Optima sports a new hood, grille, and taillights, as well as more prominent bodyside molding. Its windows are large, which helps driver visibility. All but the LX 4-cylinder version are equipped with alloy wheels. The SE models also have automatic headlights, and a power sunroof.

Performance
The 2.4-litre dohc 4-cylinder engine offers a performance of 138 hp at 6000 rpm, and 159 lbs-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. The 2.7-litre dohc V6 engine has numbers of 170 hp at 6000 rpm, and 181lbs-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. With the 2.4-litre engine, the fuel rating is 21/28 mpg (city/highway) for manuals, and 20/27 mpg for automatics. The 2.7-litre engine offers a fuel efficiency of 19/25 mpg. If automatic transmission is opted for, it comes with manual shift capability. The Kia Optima's suspension is superb, with double wishbone front suspension and independent multi- link rear suspension standard on all models.

Safety and Security
Dual front airbags and front side airbags are standard on all the Kia Optima models, as are 4-wheel disc brakes. Anti-lock brakes are optional on the V6 models, while the SE models come equipped with fog lights.

2003 Kia Optima Highlights

The car's rich, contemporary new front and rear end design will turn as many heads as its value-oriented prices
The hood and grille have been extensively revamped. The lower, more sculptured hood flows into a substantial grille with strong vertical bars. The grille is flanked by new faired-in headlights and running lights that are reminiscent of upscale European designs. The revised front end is complemented by a new, bodyside molding, new tail lights and rear garnish that give the car a cleaner, smoother appearance.
New alloy wheel and wheel cover designs as well as three new exterior colors for 2003 including Ruby Red, Imperial Blue and Diamond Silver, put the finishing touches on the attractive revision.
This year both Optima engines can be equipped with the Sportmatic four-speed automatic transmission that allows the driver to select the desired gear "manually" as well as functioning like a traditional automatic transmission when shifted to "Drive."
Inside the Optima the big news is a re-designed center stack portion of the instrument panel that makes the climate control system and audio controls even easier to use.
