Visit Subaru for more information on the Subaru Legacy.

The Legacy wagon joins the Legacy sedan and the Outback to complete Subaru's best-selling line of vehicles. What all of these models share is the precise handling of all-wheel drive, a thorough set of safety features and an overall build quality that is second to none. The Legacy wagon is a car with the right set of characteristics for families, including roominess and comfort, as well as all the aforementioned qualities for which Subaru is so well known.

Available Models
The 2003 Subaru Legacy wagon is offered in three trim levels: L, L Special Edition and GT. The Legacy sedan is covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
The Legacy wagon has four doors and seats five passengers. Space is generously managed inside the 2003 Subaru Legacy wagon, providing families with plenty of seating and storage options. Up front, the wagon has over 40 inches of head and legroom, while the rear has slightly less. In addition, the total cargo volume for the Legacy wagon is 68.6 cubic ft.

The standard features on the base L model cover all the basic needs for a vehicle and then some. Air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with CD player, cruise control, a split folding rear seat and power windows are just some of the many appointments on the inside. The L Special Edition adds a power sunroof and other features, while the top-line GT offers leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated power mirrors, an AM/FM/weatherband radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and more. The options list is long and varied, addressing listening pleasure, performance and convenience.

Exterior Features
The 2003 Subaru Legacy wagon has dual power fold-away mirrors, roof rails, a rear defogger with a timer and daytime running lights. The L Special Edition has dual power sunroofs and all-season tires.

Performance
The Legacy wagon shares the same engine with the sedan. It is a horizontally opposed 2.5-liter model capable of 165 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 166 lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The Legacy wagon's suspension system is fully independent, featuring front struts with lower L-arms and liquid-filled rear bushings and a stabilizer bar. The rear is a multi-link system with a stabilizer bar.

Like the sedan, the wagon has rack-and-pinion steering with engine-speed-sensing variable power assist. Customers can choose between 4-speed automatic transmission and 5-speed manual transmission.

Safety and Security
For safety, the 2003 Legacy wagon has all-wheel drive, dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, daytime running lights and an emergency inside trunk release. The GT trim adds front side airbags, while a security system upgrade kit is available with all models.
