Interior Features
The benefits of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat Sedan
are many, and include features such as stainless steel loading
edge protection, four tie-down hooks in the trunk, front
center armrest with storage compartment, 60/40 split folding
rear seat for extra cargo, and adjustable lumbar support
for both driver's and passenger's seats. Other standards
listed are a premium AM/FM stereo with cassette player and
CD player with eight speakers, chrome interior details,
rearview mirror control pad with joystick control, and power

Each Volkswagen Passat Sedan is fitted with all-season
tires, body color body side moldings, black grille with
center logo, halogen projector lens front fog lights integrated
into the front bumper, and body color door handles. Other
highlights of the exterior include body color bumpers with
black lower section, roof-mounted flexible black whip antenna,
body color mirror housings, and heated dual power outside
mirrors. The Passat GLX Sedan is available with a power
glass sunroof with tilt and slide feature and tinted glass
and sunshade.
Performance
Beginning with the VW Passat GLS 1.8T Sedan,
the vehicle is powered by a 1.8-litre, turbo-charged, four-cylinder
engine that produces an impressive 170 horsepower and 166
lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission on this and all
other models is a five-speed manual, with a five-speed automatic
transmission with Tiptronic offered as an option.
Both the Passat GLS VR6 and Passat GLX come equipped with
a strong 2.8-litre, six-cylinder engine that cranks out
190 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque. Each of these models
features an available "4Motion" permanent all-wheel
drive system that includes torque sensing center differential
(available with automatic transmission versions only).
Safety and Security
The VW Passat Sedan features safety standards
that include ABS brakes, side impact door beams, protective
padding on the inside of the doors, child safety locks,
side curtain air bags, child seat tethers and anchors, driver
air bag, and passenger air bag. A four-year/50,000 miles
24-hour roadside assistance program is standard.
