The elegantly-appointed and sophisticated new 2002 Volkswagen Passat Sedan is indeed a tribute its heritage - a luxurious interior, spacious accommodations, and outstanding performance and handling. And all in an exquisitely handsome package that is equally sensible for families and just plain busy folks who want to drive a prestigious vehicle.

Available Models
In the model line up for 2002 are three outstanding models- the Passat GLS 1.8T Sedan, Passat GLS VR6 Sedan, and Passat GLX Sedan. Each vehicle features four-door entry and a generous array of standard and optional features so that you can choose the model that is best for you in every way.

A Luxury Package, Leather Package, and Cold Weather Package are available in addition to base model features.

Interior Features
The benefits of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat Sedan are many, and include features such as stainless steel loading edge protection, four tie-down hooks in the trunk, front center armrest with storage compartment, 60/40 split folding rear seat for extra cargo, and adjustable lumbar support for both driver's and passenger's seats. Other standards listed are a premium AM/FM stereo with cassette player and CD player with eight speakers, chrome interior details, rearview mirror control pad with joystick control, and power central door locking system with automatic locking.

The impressive list of amenities continues with power windows, CFC-free air conditioning, cruise control, two folding keys, two reading lights, and carpeted floor mats. The Passat GLX Sedan adds electronic climate control, remote folding keys with programmable seat and mirror settings, self-dimming rearview mirror, eight-way power driver's and passenger's seats, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and supple leather seating.

Exterior Features
Each Volkswagen Passat Sedan is fitted with all-season tires, body color body side moldings, black grille with center logo, halogen projector lens front fog lights integrated into the front bumper, and body color door handles. Other highlights of the exterior include body color bumpers with black lower section, roof-mounted flexible black whip antenna, body color mirror housings, and heated dual power outside mirrors. The Passat GLX Sedan is available with a power glass sunroof with tilt and slide feature and tinted glass and sunshade.

Performance
Beginning with the VW Passat GLS 1.8T Sedan, the vehicle is powered by a 1.8-litre, turbo-charged, four-cylinder engine that produces an impressive 170 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission on this and all other models is a five-speed manual, with a five-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic offered as an option.

Both the Passat GLS VR6 and Passat GLX come equipped with a strong 2.8-litre, six-cylinder engine that cranks out 190 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque. Each of these models features an available "4Motion" permanent all-wheel drive system that includes torque sensing center differential (available with automatic transmission versions only).

Safety and Security
The VW Passat Sedan features safety standards that include ABS brakes, side impact door beams, protective padding on the inside of the doors, child safety locks, side curtain air bags, child seat tethers and anchors, driver air bag, and passenger air bag. A four-year/50,000 miles 24-hour roadside assistance program is standard.
