The trendy and refined new 2002 Volkswagen Golf Hatchback continues to be as popular as ever, with its sensible attention to detail, fun ride, and excellent handling. With a solid history of producing high-quality vehicles for the jet set, Volkswagen's fashionable Golf Hatchback lives up easily to the reputation that VW has established.

Available Models
The 2002 line up consists of four different hatchback models - Golf GL 2.0L, Golf GL TDI, Golf GLS 2.0L, and Golf GLS TDI. The Golf GL models feature two doors plus a convenient rear hatch, while the Golf GLS models sport four doors plus the rear hatch.

Interior Features
Within the comfortable cabin of the 2002 Volkswagen Golf are features like chrome interior door handles, valet key, cruise control, power windows, CFC-free air conditioning, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat to create extra cargo space. The list continues with four tie-down cargo hooks, power door locks, and an AM/FM stereo cassette player with eight speakers and optional CD changer.

The VW Golf GL models are finished off with flat woven cloth seat fabric, while the GLS models are upholstered in velour.

Exterior Features
The stylish and popular VW Golf is equipped with a rear wiper/washer, standard fifteen-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers, body color side moldings, body color grille with center logo, body color door handles, and body color bumpers with black lower section. A power glass sunroof with tilt and slide feature is available as an option of the Golf GLS models.

Performance
In the performance arena, the VW Golf 2.0L models are built with - you guessed it - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 115 horsepower and 122 lb-ft of torque. Golf GLS models are equipped with a 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine that creates 90 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque.

Standard equipment on all models includes power assisted front vented disc brakes, rear solid disc brakes, power assisted rack-and-pinion steering, front and rear gas shock absorbers, front stabilizer bar, independent front MacPherson struts and stabilizer bar, independent track correcting torsion beam rear axle with integrated stabilizer bar, and separate mounted rear coil springs and shocks for increased luggage/loading capacity. The standard transmission is a five-speed manual with four-speed automatic transmission available as an option.

Safety and Security
The VW Golf Hatchbacks pack a hard shell box around the battery for protection, crash optimized front end body panels, side impact door beams, side curtain air bags, driver air bag, passenger air bag, side impact air bags, child safety locks in four-door models, and child seat tethers and anchors.
