The Ford Escape returns for its ninth year with several
upgrades such as a new 6-speed automatic transmission and
a more powerful and fuel efficient engine ensuring it will
be a popular vehicle in the compact SUV market.
Available Models
The 2009 Ford Escape comes in three models: the Ford Escape
XLS, XLT and the Limited.
Available packages for the Limited model include the Limited
Luxury package and the Moon & Tune Package which includes
a power moonroof and premium sound system. Available on
the XLT models are the Leather Comfort Package which features
leather trimmed seats and ambient lighting - also available
for the XLT is the Sun & Sync Value Package which includes
a power moon roof and Ford SYNC® Communication and Entertainment
System. A Cargo Package is available for all models.
Interior Features
The comfortable interior seating is more eco-friendly featuring
soy-based foam instead of petroleum based products. The
rear seats fold flat to create 66.3 cubic feet of cargo
storage room. Ambient lighting in one of seven colors is
standard on the Ford Escape Limited model and available
on the XLT. The instrument panel gauges are very sharp and
glow with Ice Blue lighting.
An AM/FM single CD player with four speakers and audio
input jack comes standard on the XLS and XLT models, while
the Limited comes with an AM/FM 6-disc in dash CD changer
with seven speakers and audio input jack. Optional for the
Limited model is a voice-activated Navigation system featuring
SIRIUS® Travel Link and a 10 GB hard drive for
managing music, burning CDs or storing photos.
Exterior Features
The XLT and Limited models feature privacy glass for the
rear doors, quarter and lift gate window; fog lamps, and
roof rack side rails - colored black for the XLT and chrome
inserts for the limited. The Limited models also feature
a Chrome upper and lower grille and liftgate garnish. All
models featurea an Easy Fuel capless fuelling system.
Performance
Standard on all models is a 2.5L iVCT Duratec I4 engine
that turns out 171 horsepower an optional engine for the
XLT and Limited models is the 3.0L eVCT Duratec V6 that
ups the horsepower of the Escape to 240. All models come
with a 6-speed automatic transmission while the XLS comes
standard with the automatic or a 5-speed Manual transmission.
All models are front wheel drive with an Intelligent 4-Wheel
Drive system available as an option on all automatic models.
Safety and Security
The 2009 Ford Escape features such safety features as Personal
Safety System®, a suite of seven safety technologies
including a front passenger sensor system, new dual-stage
front air bags and side airbags. Other safety features include,
AdvanceTrac® with RSC®, Tire Pressure Monitoring
system, LATCH system on rear seating positions, ABS braking
system and Safety Canopy side airbag curtain technology
that protects the first and second row seating.
