The capital "B" in the TrailBlazer's name leaves
no doubt as to the ability of this mid-size sport utility
vehicle. The same holds true for the TrailBlazer EXT, big
brother to the regular length model.
The 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer models receive a number of new
pieces of equipment, including a last-door locking feature
and new 17-inch bright aluminum wheels. Interior design
changes include a monochromatic instrument panel, Light
Cashmere cloth reclining bucket seats or premium two-tone
leather seating surfaces. Infotainment additions for 2004
include XM Satellite and Navigation radios.
Available Models
The 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer EXT is offered in two models:
LS and LT, plus the unique North Face Edition model. The
TrailBlazer is covered in a separate review.
Interior Features
The four-door Chevy TrailBlazer EXT has sixteen extra inches
in its wheelbase when compared to the regular length model.
This allows for an extra row of seating and the ability
to fit seven passengers.
TrailBlazer EXT's heating/ventilation/air conditioning
system has been rated one of the best in its class. It has
dual zones and a high-airflow system that warms up and cools
down faster than virtually any other system in the segment
or price range.
For the outdoor enthusiast, The North Face Edition is a
model with all the right functional equipment. On the inside,
these models contain The North Face badged seats, mesh map
pockets, rain-sense wipers, liftgate lighting, an underfloor
storage cargo liner, heavy-duty floor/cargo mats, an adjustable
cargo shelf with a table and The North Face duffel bags
and blanket.
Exterior Features
The North Face Edition also distinguishes itself externally.
With standard 17-inch sport aluminum wheels, lower accent-color
body cladding, body-colored outside rearview mirrors, running
lamps, headlamp washers and B-pillar badging, there's no
mistaking this model as it rolls down the road.
Performance
The 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer EXT is equipped with a 4.2-liter,
inline 6-cylinder Vortec engine with 275 horsepower at 6000
rpm and 275 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. The inline configuration
virtually eliminates shake and idle roll, as well as providing
solid balance. 4-speed automatic transmission takes care
of the shifting.
An Autotrac four-wheel-drive system is standard on 4x4
models. Traction control is available as an option for two-wheel-drive
models.
Safety and Security
Four-wheel vented disc antilock brakes, dual-stage airbags
for the front seating positions and three-point restraint
systems for all seating positions (including the middle
rear) are standard. Side-impact airbags for front seating
positions are also available.
