The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the flagship of the manufacturer.
It is a midsize sport utility vehicle with a nice range
of features and a solid powertrain. The 2004 Jeep Grand
Cherokee debuts a more distinctive front fascia, which should
make it that much more noticeable on the road.
Another new item is an available navigation system. It
adds to an already crowded options list that contains two
unique models in the Special and Freedom editions. They
are two feature-heavy group packages that really load on
the comfort.
Available Models
The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in Laredo, Limited
and Overland trims. The top-line Overland trim is covered
separately.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee sits five passengers
and offers 72.3 cubic feet of cargo volume. The newly available
navigation system combines a 4.9-inch full-color display,
AM/FM Stereo, CD Player and navigation system all in one
unit.
For a few thousand dollars, you can turn your Grand Cherokee
into a truly special model with the group package of the
same name. Special Edition Grand Cherokees add an Infinity
AM/FM/cassette/CD player with a 10-disc CD changer, an overhead
console, a trip computer and more to the Laredo trim.
Exterior Features
The Grand Cherokee's fresh appearance debuted in 2003, and
it continues into 2004. It includes a new front fascia,
new grille and new fog lamp appearance for all models.
Performance
Limited models are offered in two-wheel drive and all-wheel
drive configurations. The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
comes with 2WD or 4WD. However, Laredo models with the Special
package get all-wheel drive as well.
The standard engine is a 4.0-liter inline 6-cylinder model.
It will generate 195 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 230 lb-ft
of torque at 3000 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is
standard.
Customers who like more power under the hood of their SUV
need not despair. Two optional engines are offered for 2004.
The first is a 4.7-liter V8 that uses a 5-speed automatic
transmission. It has 235 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 295
lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm.
The second available engine is another 4.7-liter V8 mated
to 5-speed automatic transmission. With 265 horsepower at
5100 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm, it is the
most powerful of the lot.
Safety and Security
Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and dual front airbags are
standard with the Laredo and Limited trims. Curtain side
airbags and a tire-pressure monitor are optional.
