2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
With the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, you get the manufacturer
at its finest. The flagship model displays the blend of
ruggedness and refinement that every quality midsize sport
utility vehicle strives for. Few attain it, but when they
do the result is something like the Overland model.
For 2004, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland model is offered
in a rear-wheel drive configuration. Previously, it had
only been available with all-wheel drive-which it still
is. Other new items include a fresh front end and more optional
equipment.
Available Models
The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in Laredo, Limited
and Overland trims. Laredo and Limited models are covered
separately.
Interior Features
The four-door Grand Cherokee sits five passengers. It offers
up to 72.3 cubic feet of cargo volume.
The Overland has a long list of premium features. There's
air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate control,
leather upholstery and a wood/leather-wrapped steering wheel
with radio controls. But of course there's more: heated
10-way power front seats, a power sunroof, an Infinity AM/FM/cassette/CD
player with 10-disc CD changer and rain-sensing wipers are
also included.
New for 2004 is a navigation system. The optional piece
features a 4.9-inch full-color display, AM/FM Stereo, CD
Player and navigation system all in one unit.
Exterior Features
The 2004 Grand Cherokee's front now includes a new front
fascia, new grille and new fog lamp appearance.
Performance
The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland has the most standard
power in the family. It is driven by a 4.7-liter V8 engine
that generates 265 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 325 lb-ft
of torque at 3600rpm.
5-speed automatic transmission takes care of the shift
points for you. The resulting fuel rating for the 2004 Jeep
Grand Cherokee Overland model is 15/20 mpg (city/highway).
The all-wheel drive configuration used is called Quadra-Drive,
and it makes use of two systems, the Quadra-Trac II on-demand
transfer case and Vari-Lok axles. The Quadra-Trac II transfer
case incorporates a progressive, speed-sensing torque transfer
coupling. Vari-Lok axles use progressive, hydro-mechanical
speed-sensing torque transfer coupling in both front and
rear differentials. They combine to form excellent vehicle
control under adverse conditions.
Safety and Security
The Overland model turns the Jeep Grand Cherokee into a
powerful and refined beast, as well as a safe one. The standard
safety package for 2004 includes limited-slip differential,
dual front airbags, curtain side airbags, 4-wheel antilock
disc brakes and fog lights. A tire-pressure monitor can
be had from the options list for a moderate fee.
