Saturn introduces a brand spankin' new vehicle for 2005,
the Relay. It combines the functionality of a minivan with
the rugged ability of an SUV.
In other words, this is one of those crossover vehicles
you hear so much about. And this one is given Saturn's renowned
safety package, plus all their innovative financing options
as well.
The Relay is the first Saturn vehicle with the ability
to seat up to seven passengers. And it does that with ease.
It also offers passenger- and cargo-carrying flexibility,
good fuel economy, a low step-in height and excellent ride
and handling.
Available Models
The 2005 Saturn Relay is offered with front-wheel drive
or all-wheel drive. There are also two trims to choose from,
named 2 and 3.
Interior Features
As mentioned, the 2005 Saturn Relay can sit seven with ease.
For practical applications, its 50/50-split third-row bench
seat can be folded to create a level load floor when combined
with an available rear storage bin.
On the inside, the Relay interior includes a sporty three-spoke
steering wheel with ebony rim and center trim matching the
upper part of the instrument panel and the upper door trim.
The Saturn Relay is also distinguished by its wide choice
of passenger entertainment systems, including a DVD rear-passenger
entertainment system that is standard across all trim levels.
There's also an optional Mobile Digital Media powered by
a PhatNoise system (available interim 2005) that allows
customers to store hundreds of hours of music, movies and
other entertainment on a removable hard drive cartridge.
Exterior Features
The 2005 Saturn Relay uses standard 17-inch steel wheels
with a composite center bolt-on disc, a six-spoke design
and the Saturn emblem in the middle. The uplevel Relay 3
has six-spoke bright silver painted aluminum wheels that
feature Saturn's emblem.
Performance
Powering the new Saturn Relay model is a capable 3.5-liter
V6 engine. It is able to pump out 200 horsepower at 5200
rpm and 298 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.
To the V6 engine is mated a Hydra-Matic 4T65-E 4-speed
electronically controlled automatic transmission, which
provides smooth, seamless shifts. Electronic safeguards
built into the transmission ensure trouble-free performance.
When properly equipped, a Relay can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Safety and Security
Antilock 4-wheel brakes are standard across the line. All
seven seating positions have three-point safety belts, and
second-row seats use the LATCH child seat system. Optional
seat-mounted side-impact airbags help provide head and torso
protection for the both the front passenger and the driver.
