The Limited edition of the Ford Escape is a new model introduced
for 2003. It brings a level of luxury previously unseen
in the small SUV segment. Adding to the responsive handling
and adventurous nature of the Escape, the 2003 Ford Escape
Limited maximizes both comfort and high performance. For
people who like both in excess, the Limited edition is the
perfect choice.
Available Models
The 2003 Ford Escape Limited stands at the top of the list
of Escape editions. Above both the base XLS and mid-level
XLT, it is the pinnacle achievement of Escape manufacturers.
Interior Features
The Limited edition is quite simply loaded with standard
features. With premium leather seats, heated front seats,
dual front sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, an
auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated exterior mirrors, Ford's
Reverse Sensing System and a MACH Audio in-dash six-CD changer
with automatic volume control, the Limited is at the top
of the class for a reason.
On the practical side of things, the four-door Escape has
room to carry five adults and their cargo comfortably. Its
low step-in height and wide door openings allow good access,
with four assist grips for front passengers on the A-pillar
and headliner on each side and two more on the headliner
for rear-seat occupants.
Exterior Features
Three new colors are available on 2003 Escapes: Aspen Green,
Red Fire and Gold Ash. The Limited has its own distinct
look with body-color cladding, fascias, moldings, door handles
and liftgate trim for a monochromatic exterior appearance.
Also standard are bright machined 16-inch aluminum wheels.
Performance
The Limited edition has a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 201 horsepower
at 5900 rpm and 196 lb-ft of torque at 4700 rpm. When properly
equipped, the Escape can tow up to 3,500 pounds. Two-wheel
drive and all-wheel drive configurations are available.
4-speed automatic transmission is standard. The MacPherson
strut front suspension helps isolate road forces, while
the independent rear suspension allows lower spring rates
for a smooth ride. The Escape's exceptional handling is
achieved with a power rack-and-pinion steering system.
Safety and Security
The Limited edition adds standard side airbags to the front
airbag pair. Four channel antilock brakes handle quick stops,
while an energy-absorbing steering column works with energy-absorbing
knee bolsters to reduce the risk of injuries for front-seat
occupants.
