The exciting new 2002 Nissan Xterra SUV dishes out lots of versatility, with a model to suit each and everyone's driving requirements in both the performance and luxury departments. Packing loads of quality and durability for your hard-earned dollar, the Xterra looks refined yet tough enough to appear comfortably at the theatre or at the campground.

Available Models
Ample variety is provided courtesy of three main models - Xterra XE, Xterra XE V6, and Xterra SE V6. Both of the six-cylinder models feature four-wheel drive and also come with the option of a super-charged engine for those with higher performance demands for their SUV's.

Interior Features
Enter the cabin of the Nissan Xterra SUV and you'll be welcomed by a roomy interior boasting standards such as air conditioning, easy-to-clean woven seat cloth, center console with dual-level storage, six ceiling tie-down clips, and a 50/50 split folding rear seat. The amenities continue with removable rear seat cushions and an AM/FM stereo with CD player and four speakers.

Among the accessories and packages available on the entry-level model (and either optional or standard on the upper two models) are such items as a cargo organizer, power windows, power door locks, cruise control with steering-wheel mounted controls, and an upgraded sound system.

Exterior Features
The sophisticated and handsome Nissan Xterra wears a tubular roof rack, fifteen-inch steel wheels (sixteen-inch aluminum alloy wheels on the luxurious SE V6), and black privacy glass. The Xterra SE V6 also boasts fender lip moldings, body side moldings, tubular step rails, front tow hook, fog lights, and dual power outside mirrors.

Performance
Beginning with the entry-level Xterra XE SUV, performance specifications include a 2.4-litre, DOHC, 16-valve four-cylinder engine that produces 143 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. This two-wheel drive vehicle is well-suited to city driving and hauling colleagues or kids from place to place. The standard transmission is five-speed manual.

A significant change in engine capabilities is found in the next model, the Xterra XE V6 and SE V6, which boost output to 170 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque thanks to a 3.3-litre, SOHC, 12-valve six-cylinder engine. A SuperCharged engine is offered as an option and produces 210 horsepower and 246 lb-ft of torque. For outstanding performance on challenging terrain, each vehicle is equipped with part-time four-wheel drive with auto-locking hubs. Standard transmission is five-speed manual, with four-speed automatic available as an option. The SE V6 model adds limited slip rear differential.

Safety and Security
Each Nissan Xterra SUV features front and rear crumple zones, hood buckling creases, pipe-style steel side door impact beams, child safety locks, three-point seatbelts at outboard seating positions, child seat tethers and anchors, a driver depowered air bag, and a passenger depowered air bag. The Xterra SE V6 is equipped with a remote keyless entry system - available in a package deal on the other two models.
