for busy families and folks on the go, the versatile Mercury
Villager is poised for a successful year in 2002. For those
tending to transport a lot of people, up to seven passengers
can be accommodated in its comfortable and well-appointed
interior. As for performance, its handling is closer to
that of a car and is great fun to drive.
Available Models
The 2002 Mercury Villager Passenger Van features
a wide array of models to choose from so that you may select
the configuration that suits your work, family, and recreational
needs appropriately. Available this year are the Villager
Value, Villager Popular, Villager Sport, Villager Sport
Plus, Villager Estate, and Villager Estate Premium.
Interior Features
Along with a range if innovative seating and
cargo arrangements, the Villager sports practical storage
solutions like a handy drawer located under the front passenger's
seat. The third-row bench is removable to accommodate extra
cargo, and can be moved to three different positions in
the cabin. The second row seat can also be taken out.
An optional entertainment system with VHS player and video
game plug-in is available, including a 6.4-inch roof-mounted
screen, rear passenger controls, and a remote control. A
parcel shelf is standard on the Sport and Estate models
to increase rear storage, and a roof-mounted luggage rack
is standard.
Exterior Features
The exterior of the Mercury Villager line up
of passenger vans has not changed, and stays true to the
2001 revamped front fascia, satin aluminum-plated grille,
redesigned rear liftgate, new bodyside moldings, and new
sixteen-inch alloy wheels on the Sport and Estate packages.
One new color is available this year - cordovan red clearcoat
metallic paint.
Driver's and passenger's side sliding doors make the loading
and unloading of cargo, kids, and the family dog a simplified
task.
Performance
Under the hood, the Mercury Villager sports a
standard 3.3-litre, SOHC, V6 engine that clears a respectable
170 horsepower and 200 lbs-ft of torque for excellent acceleration
when merging or overtaking another vehicle.
The standard transmission is an electronically controlled
four-speed automatic with overdrive. The MacPherson strut
independent front suspension and great rear suspension encourage
a smooth and quiet ride with minimal noise and vibration.
The sport and Estate models add a rear stabilizer bar and
finely-tuned shock absorbers for top-notch handling.
Safety and Security
The 2002 Mercury Villager Passenger Van is equipped
with child safety locks, child seat tethers and anchors,
passenger side air bag, driver side air bag, three-point
seatbelts, and head restraints. The body of the vehicle
is reinforced with side impact door beams, and front and
rear crumple zones channel the energy of an impact away
from the cabin.
Other standard safety features include a remote keyless
entry system with a 33-foot range and panic button, and
finally an anti-theft alarm.
