The bold and rugged Dodge Durango SUV is a tribute to its
original conception - the generous interior passenger and
cargo space of a full-size SUV, versatility, and outstanding
performance and handling. It has remained a dominating force
in its market for years.
Available Models
The tough new 2002 Dodge Durango SUV is available
in five models - Sport, SLT, SLT Plus, and R/T models. New
this year is the SXT model, with unique upgrades to select
luxury and performance features.
Interior Features
Within the roomy cabin are a standard four-speaker
AM/FM stereo with cassette player and equalizer, and an
optional rear Mopar DEV Entertainment Center - a thankful
addition for those of you traveling with children on long
trips. The standard two-row seating configuration accommodates
five passengers, and a third row seat comes standard on
SLT, SLT Plus, and R/T models to fit up to eight people.
The new SXT comes with a standard AM/FM stereo with CD player.
A heat, ventilation, and air conditioning system for the
rear seating area is available as an option, and dual-zone
climate control is standard. The Durango SLT Plus and Durango
R/T are finished off in fine style with genuine leather
upholstery, an optional feature on the SLT. Heated and six-way
power seats for both driver and front passenger are optional.
Another option is an eight-speaker Infinity sound system.
Exterior Features
Durango R/T sports bright R/T badging, color-keyed
wheel flares. The Dodge Durango SXT is all dressed up and
ready to go with graphite front and rear fascias, grille
and fender flares, sixteen-inch cast aluminum wheels, roof
rack, and optional running boards.
Performance
Two highly impressive engines are available with
the Dodge Durango SUV. The 4.7-litre Magnum eight-cylinder
engine produces 235 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque,
while the 5.9-litre Magnum eight-cylinder engine is the
largest in its class and delivers 245 horsepower and 335
lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission is a highly reactive
automatic, and the towing capacity is 7,550 lbs when properly
equipped, with a standard towing capacity of 1,670 lbs.
The Dodge Durango SUV is offered in either 2WD or 4WD configurations.
Around half way through the year, a 5-45RFE five-speed automatic
transmission will increase fuel efficiency.
Safety and Security
New for 2002 are upgrades in this department,
such as the addition of side-curtain air bags for the front
and second row seats. Other standard safety measures include
a driver air bag, passenger air bag, three-point seatbelts,
head restraints, front and rear crumple zones, side impact
door beams, and child seat tethers and anchors.
