The Grand Am begins to get phased out in 2005 as Pontiac
moves towards full implementation of their newest car, the
G6. For the last model year of its existence, the Grand
Am will only be offered as a two-door coupe.
2005 Pontiac Grand Ams remain just at sporty and driver-friendly
as ever, with nice interior appointments, smooth handling,
and quite a bit of pep under the hood. There's no going
out softly for these proud cars.
Available Models
The 2005 Pontiac Grand Am is broken down into two trim levels:
GT and GT1. As mentioned, there are no SE models this year.
Interior Features
Two-door coupes seat five passengers and offer a cargo volume
of 14.6 cubic feet. That's plenty of room to carry a heavy
load of goods.
All 2005 Pontiac Grand Am models come with air-conditioning,
a tilt steering wheel, a center console, cupholders, a split
folding rear seat, power mirrors, windows and door locks,
remote keyless entry, a Monsoon AM/FM/CD player and a digital
clock. The GT1 adds a standard MP3 player.
Pontiac offers a special SC/T edition Grand Am for 2005.
On in the inside, this package adds XM Satellite Radio and
leather-appointed seating with "SC/T" embroidered
on seat backs.
There are other options for 2005 as well. Many can be added
individually, though there are a few group deals.
Exterior Features
The exterior of the flashy SC/T is sure to catch the eye.
It includes a performance composite hood, rear aero wings,
chrome tech wheels and a custom chrome-tipped exhaust system.
Performance
The sole engine for 2005 GT models is a capable 3.4-liter
V6 with Ram Air, cold-air induction and lower-restriction
exhaust. It enables GTs to produce up to 175 horsepower
at 4800 rpm and 205 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.
4-speed automatic transmission takes care of all the shifting.
The 2005 Grand Am mounts power rack-and-pinion steering
on a sturdy hydroformed chassis, which centers the vehicle
nicely and results in its trademark responsiveness.
All models have rack-and-pinion steering and performance
tuned suspensions.
Safety and Security
The standard safety package of GT models includes such items
as dual front airbags, sport suspension, daytime running
lights and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes. Also provided are
programmable door locks with lockout protection, battery
rundown protection, an electric remote trunk release, an
oil life monitor, the PASSLock II theft deterrent and a
sealed-for-life transmission.
