The Vibe keeps gaining more customers, and it keeps improving
with each new year to bring more into the fold. If you think
that's an overstatement, just consider the numbers: Vibe
sales increased 45 percent in 2003.
The Vibe continues to attract people with its blend of
roominess and inventiveness, not to mention its ever-evolving
spirit. Additional safety features and revised styling mark
the 2005 edition of Pontiac's crossover wagon.
Available Models
The 2005 Pontiac Vibe is offered in two models: base and
GT.
Interior Features
The interior of the 2005 Pontiac Vibe is perhaps the biggest
selling point of all. The four-door car can seat five people
with ease. With one touch the rear seats fold flat, creating
a level load floor and 54.1 cubic feet of cargo volume.
There are many practical features inside the Vibe. You
can have one with a DVD-based navigation screen, while the
center console contains two cupholders, a small covered
storage bin, a larger covered lower bin under the console
lid, a cell phone holder and a coinholder.
Good sound is another option with this year's Vibe model.
The booming "Moon & Tunes" package combines
a power-operated moonroof with a stunning audio system anchored
by a new, integrated sub-woofer.
Exterior Features
The 2005 Pontiac Vibe features a restyled front fascia and
grille that carry styling cues from the 2006 Pontiac Solstice
roadster. All models keep the unique swing-up tailgate with
separate-opening window. They come with 16-inch wheels;
17s are optional with front-wheel drive.
Performance
Base models are offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel
drive; uplevel GT models only come in front-wheel drive.
The base engine is a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder model with
variable-valve timing. FWD models produce 130 horsepower
and 125 lb-ft of torque; AWD models have 123 horsepower
and 118 lb-ft of torque.
GT models use the same size engine, but with specs of 170
horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque.
For 2005, a dealer-installed supercharger kit is available.
With it, the Vibe gains 7.5 pounds of engine boost and an
approximately 35-percent increase in horsepower and torque.
Safety and Security
The 2005 Pontiac Vibe features a large safety cage and crumple
zones, while antilock brakes are standard with AWD and GT
models. They are optional with the base model. A tire pressure
monitor is now standard on GT and AWD models.
GTs include rear disc brakes instead of drums and, along
with front-drive base models, are available for the first
time with an antiskid system. Head-protecting curtain side
airbags are another new 2005 option; they team with carryover
front torso side airbags.
