For 2005, the makers at Dodge can't stop raving about the
Power Wagon, a model they confidently boast will tackle
the toughest jobs you can think of. Coming from the manufacturers
of the Ram, you know they have an inside track on engineering
ruggedness.
The Power Wagon is based on the 2500 ¾-ton pickup.
The Power Wagon uses legendary HEMI power, class-exclusive
electric locking front and rear differentials, class-exclusive
electronic disconnecting front sway bar, the tallest standard
tires offered with 33-inch BF Goodrich tires and a custom-built
Warn 12,000 lb. winch.
Available Models
The 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 are offered in two body
styles: a two-door regular cab and a Quad Cab four-door
crew cab. Both come in ST and uplevel SLT trims with cargo
beds of 6.3 ft or 8 ft.
Interior Features
Regular cabs sit three, while Quad Cabs handle six. Both
are as rugged as they come.
The Quad Cab is also now bigger than ever. Dodge manufacturers
took three inches out of the short bed length and added
it to the rear of the cab. In addition, the rear doors open
85 degrees and the rear windows move all the way down, unique
on full-size pickups.
If you want interior decadence, a Laramie package is available
with uplevel SLT models. It includes dual-zone manual climate
controls, power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, an
Infinity AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and
a satin-silver instrument panel, among other things.
Exterior Features
The new 2005 Dodge Ram Power Wagon is distinguished by custom
matte finish wheel flares, a two-inch taller stance and
custom 17 x 8-inch polished forged aluminum wheels. In addition,
a large chrome Power Wagon badge is featured across the
tailgate.
Performance
The base engine for the heavy-duty lineup is a 5.7-liter
HEMI V8 with 345 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 375 lb-ft of
torque at 4400 rpm. There's also a new '600' High Output
Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine. It cranks out a mean 325
horsepower at 2900 rpm and 600 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm.
A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard
with the 5.7-liter V8, while a 6-speed manual version is
offered with the diesel engine. Automatic in 5-speeds (5.7-liter
V8) and 4-speeds (diesel engine) are also offered.
The Power Wagon boasts best-in-class wheel articulation
with new suspensions designs. The front suspension uses
a solid front axle with coil spring design for better wheel
articulation. The rear suspension has a new single stage
leaf design and uses unique, softer spring settings.
Safety and Security
A class-exclusive side-curtain airbag system and power adjustable
pedals are both offered. Ram also provides standard ABS
brakes, pretensioning and the first constant force seat
belt retractors in a heavy-duty pickup truck.
