Visit Mazda for more information on the Mazda Protege5.

The innovative and energetic new 2002 Mazda Protégé5 is a vibrant newcomer to this year's market, and is a welcome tribute to intuitive design and sporty style. It bears a unique blend of sensibility, fun, deft handling, and a lengthy list of optional features.

Available Models
The central figure this year is one single Mazda Protege5 model, upon which several options are built to suit your requirements and pocketbook.

Interior Features
Inside the intriguing Protege5 are an array of standard features that includes a dark charcoal trim with silver accents, a steering wheel wrapped in genuine leather, power windows, power door locks, and cruise control. The four-speaker AM/FM stereo with CD player is also basic fare, along with a handy remote keyless entry system to make things easier.

The rear seat splits 60/40 to allow passengers to sit in the back while at the same time allowing extra cargo into the main cabin. The cargo area comes with a neat rigid cargo cover. The seating capacity is five passengers.

Options range from a moonroof to an alarm immobilizer and an in-dash six-disc CD player.

Exterior Features
The attractive and sleek Mazda Protege5 is offered up in six bold colors this season, and has highlights such as a standard black roof rack, roof-mounted antenna, and five-spoke sixteen-inch alloy wheels. Optional polished aluminum alloy wheels are available.

The convenient rear hatch makes daily chores a breeze, with groceries and other cargo easily loaded and unloaded.

Performance
The Mazda Protege5 is built with a 2.0-litre, DOHC, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine that produces 130 horsepower. The standard transmission is five-speed manual, with automatic transmission available for those who prefer it. Acceleration is terrific, especially with the fun five-speed manual models.

The list of performance features continues with independent front MacPherson struts and independent twin-trapezoidal link design struts in the rear. Each vehicle is equipped with all-season steel-belted radial tires.

Safety and Security
In this department, the Protege5 shines with H-shaped roof, floor, and B-pillar reinforcements for superior protection in case of a rollover or side impact. Additionally, each vehicle is bolstered with standards such as a driver side air bag, passenger side air bag, three-point seatbelts, head restraints, and optional side impact air bags. Other standard fare includes child safety locks in the rear, along with child safety seat tethers and anchors.
