The new Buick Rendezvous Ultra is here, and it doesn't
really care who or what is in its way. With more power,
finesse and style than any of its predecessors, it's understandable
why the Rendezvous Ultra might have a little bit of attitude.
After all, when you can back it up it's all good, isn't
it?
The 2004 Buick Rendezvous Ultra features a variable valve
timing V6 engine. This results in improved fuel combustion,
which in turn benefits the environment by reducing emissions.
It also spares the pocketbook by improving fuel economy.
But that's just one of the many upgrades with this top-line
sports touring vehicle. It also has more standard features
and that undeniable confidence.
Available Models
The 2004 Buick Rendezvous is offered in three models: CX,
CXL (covered together in a separate review) and the Ultra.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Buick Rendezvous Ultra has a versatile
interior that is sure to be a hit with families. Two lush
bucket seats are up front, while the second row comes with
two captain's chairs. The third row bench seat can be folded
flush if needed. The result: Rendezvous leads its competitors
in available cargo space with 108.9 cubic feet when the
second row is removed and the third row is folded.
The 2004 Buick Rendezvous is very well equipped, and the
Rendezvous Ultra is extremely well equipped. A head-up instrumentation
display, XM satellite radio, the OnStar system, a rear-obstacle
detection system, leather and suede upholstery and more
are all standard.
A GPS navigation system is an option that features detailed
on-screen info. Also available is a DVD entertainment system.
Exterior Features
The Buick Rendezvous Ultra has a power liftgate that features
an electronic release for easy, one-handed operation. It
also has an easy step-in height to accommodate most every
type of passenger.
Performance
Perform is one thing the Rendezvous Ultra can do. Its 3.6-liter
VVT (variable valve timing) V6 engine has the ability to
produce 245 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque
at 3200 rpm. To this engine is mated a 4-speed automatic
transmission.
GM's Versatrak all-wheel-drive system is standard. The
Ultra also features independent front and rear suspension
and rear gas-pressure monotube shocks for a stable, bump-free
ride.
An automatic level-control system, included in a trailer
package, is available as an option. It uses an on-board
compressor, which regulates air-bladder-assisted rear shock
absorbers to maintain a level ride when heavy loads are
carried or a trailer is attached.
Safety and Security
Safety appointments include standard front and optional
side airbags with advanced inflation characteristics for
front-seat passengers, a safety-cage construction and available
four-wheel disc antilock brakes.
