The Pontiac Aztek was the worlds first SRV or Sport Recreational
Vehicle. When it first came on to the scene it was received
with both fanfare and scepticism but over time, the Aztek
has proved itself with its unique styling and functional
abilities.
Available Models
This mid-size crossover SUV or SRV has a single model with
either Front or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) but it has some important
options groups that really make the difference between basic,
but still well-equipped adventure vehicle and a luxurious,
fully-loaded version of the same. These include the 1SB
Group, 1SC Option Group and the Luxury Appointment Group
that adds on to it.
Interior Features
As with most other Pontiac vehicles, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek
starts out with many great features. Cruise control, air
conditioning, power windows, door-locks and mirrors and
an AM/FM/CD player are all standard equipment. These are
just a few of the great standards. The Aztek is designed
for a particular, rugged demographic and consequently it
has useful features like automatic headlights, rear-window
defogger, bucket seats with cloth upholstery. The rear split-folding
bench-seat also folds flat for increased cargo or functional
enhancement.
Meanwhile, the 1SC Option Group is available and it includes
an OnStar System, tire-pressure monitor, upgraded upholstery,
6-way power driver seat, driver info centre, and much more.
The Luxury Appointment Group includes leather upholstery.
The factor to remember with the 2003 Pontiac Aztec is that
it's great versatility comes from the huge range of options
available. DVD, 100 channel XM Satellite radio are both
options but trailer and cargo options groups are available
also.
Exterior Features
The 2003 Pontiac Aztek has an unparalleled external styling
that really sets it apart but the functional quality of
this vehicle is what has really paid its dues. Standard
features on the basic model include roof rails, fog lights
and alloy wheels but the options allow very specific functional
enhancements, of which the 1SC package, with its 235/55R17
tires, cargo nets, tie-downs, and slide out rear cargo tray,
are only a beginning.
Performance
The Aztek has a standard V6 3.4-liter has 185 hp at 5200rpm
and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. This engine is fitted
with 4-speed automatic transmission and it gets 18/25mpg
(city/hwy). The front-wheel drive edition has optional traction
control while the AWD has GM's Versatrak system.
Safety and Security
The Aztek has dual-front and front-side airbags while 4-wheel
antilock disc brakes and 215/70R16 tires are enhanced by
the theft-deterrent system and the optional OnStar equipment.
