The Mazda MX-5 Miata SE (Special Edition) remains one of
the most popular sports car convertibles. Garnering critical
acclaim, its twelve years of success are fast turning it
into a classic collectible with enthusiast groups popping
up throughout North America. Fun to drive, it corners well,
and combines style with affordability and exceptional performance,
going 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds.
Available Models
The 2003 Mazda Miata is available in the Base model and
the LS model. Both are 2-seat, 2-door convertibles, with
several option packages to enhance utility, performance
and/or comfort.
Interior Features
The 2003 Mazda Miata maintains its sporty look and sexy
interior and even at the base level, despite its moderate
price point, it offers a solid selection of interior amenity.
Despite its compact size, the 2003 Mazda Miata's cargo room
proves surprisingly adequate.
Both the Base and LS model have power steering, air conditioning,
power antenna, AM/FM/CD player, digital clock and a tachometer.
Standard on the generously appointed LS, cruise control,
remote keyless entry, a Bose sound system, leather upholstery,
a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and aluminum-look trim
all comprise the form and function enhancements. There are
options for an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, and an automatic
day/night rear-view mirror.
Exterior Features
Both 2003 Mazda Miata models come with the classically recognisable
shape that has not been tampered with for 2003. A manual
folding softtop with a heated glass rear window comes as
standard equipment but an optional removable hardtop is
available. The 2003 Base model now features 16-inch alloy
wheels, which have been standard on the LS for some time.
Other exterior design features include rear mud guards and
prominent body side sills.
Performance
The Miata's 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine puts out 142 hp
at 7000 rpm and 125 lb-ft of torque at 5500 rpm. Both the
Base and LS models are available in 5-speed manual transmission
or 4-speed automatic transmission, while the LS has a 6-speed
manual option. Its agile steering and calm cruising make
it a road favourite.
Safety and Security
Both Miata models are equipped with dual front airbags,
4-wheel disc brakes, fog lights, and a theft deterrent system.
Anti-lock brakes are an option on the LS edition.
