The Eddie Bauer is a new addition to the Excursion family,
giving the largest SUV in America an even more versatile
lineup. Next to the Limited edition in terms of standard
equipment, the Eddie Bauer loads on the comfort features
and adds a healthy dose of refinement as well. The result
is two brawny, full-size SUVs with excessive power and a
noticeable sense of style.
Available Models
The Eddie Bauer and Limited editions are joined by XLT and
XLT Premium editions, rounding out the model selection to
a total of four. All models come with the standard performance
and ruggedness inherent in the Excursion line.
Interior Features
Up to nine passengers will delight in the comfort of these
top-line models. The Eddie Bauer offers, among other things,
front automatic climate controls, leather upholstery, power-adjustable
pedals and cruise control. The Limited adds heated front
seats, driver-seat and pedal memory, steering-wheel climate
and radio controls and an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc
CD changer.
Exterior Features
The Excursion is simply a massive vehicle. With a wheelbase
of 137.1 inches, there is roominess everywhere. On the outside,
the Excursion's confident look is as much a result of its
size as it is styling. The new Eddie Bauer edition has an
Arizona Beige grille insert and body-color grille surround,
front and rear fascias in Arizona Beige and Eddie Bauer
badging. Both the Eddie Bauer and Limited have fog lamps
that improve visibility in inclement weather, while crystalline
halogen headlamps provide excellent nighttime visibility.
Performance
Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations are
both available with the Excursion. With two-wheel drive
models, the standard engine is a powerful 5.4-liter V8 with
255 horsepower at 4500 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 2500
rpm. Four-wheel drive models are equipped with a massive
6.8-liter V10 with 310 horsepower at 4250 rpm and 425 lb-ft
of torque at 3250 rpm (optional on two-wheel drive models).
Also available is a 7.3-liter Turbodiesel V8 with 250 horsepower
at 2600 rpm and 525 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm. However,
later in the model year an improved diesel V8 will be offered.
The new, cleaner 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel and new five-speed
TorqShift automatic transmission will combine to make a
best-in-class 325 horsepower at 3300 rpm and 550 lb-ft of
torque at 2000 rpm. It will offer up to 10 percent better
fuel economy and 20 percent lower emissions.
Safety and Security
The heavy-duty construction of the Excursion is as big a
safety factor as any. Other features include dual front
airbags and reliable antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.
